  • What to do, what to do

I have a 202 tailor (65 HIE Mage, epic, 260aas so farming is generally no prob) that I am trying to push to 220 or 240. Most of my past skillups have come from Cere Solstice Robes and Rockhopper hides.

I recently got fed up with both of those (skillup for robes is too low and hides are too long to farm) so I started buying tears of prexus for cultural robe and today just trashed my lovable othmir faction for some furs (which dropped nicely might I add).

I have a lowbie druid (30ish) I raised for imbuing emeralds for CSRs. Would I be better off levelling her and hunting tigerraptor hides? At what level can she take down a tigerraptor? Or should I stick with my prexus/othmir route? I haven't combined any othmir yet but I assume the skillup rate will be nearly as good as rockhopper due to the close trivial.

Finally, is there another avenue of skillup I haven't been considering?

Thanks for any info and foresight you can give.

Sounds like you got the best thing covered. For a 65 mage, you can mow through all of CS spawns (drakes, wyverns, and otters) relatively fast, so there isn't much issue for velious drops. I farmed TR hides because I was told spawn was fast and they were easy to kill. Decided that a clearing of drakes and wyverns in CS netted more combine attempts than TR did. But, there are other mobs that drop pelts and stuff needed in the zone with TRs, you just have to hunt them down and hope the stuff drops. IIRCC, TR combines take less velium than drake/wyvern, and no mana vials, unliek othmir. I did a run on my cleric at 193 skill soem time back of 200 othmir hides and managed 2 skillups.

In the interest of ease however, cult robes (not an option to my halfling) are the easiest route to GM I am told, based on the varying trivials. Since hte skillup formula was revealed and we now know that the closer to trivial skill you are, the better the chance of skillup, seems like cult robes are a good bet. If you mix a little of both, you can cover your ribbon cost with gem drops from clearing CS too.

You should consider puma/haze puma too - mainly because there are so many of them, and generally uncamped. If you can get a source for yew leaves, you're laughing. You can also pick up the odd haze panther eye for tinkers too.

Psst... the armour still sells at a decent price too.

Would this be the panthers in WL? It is the only zone I know of with the haze panthers. It has been sometime since I have hunted there. Are the panthers plentifull and is the hide drop rate good? I may try this zone again.

Haze panthers are invis and rare, and they don't always drop their hides. Panthers are fairly plentiful though. In addition, yew leaves are extremely rare (for the required tannin), so I don't recommend this route unless you are willing to buy supplies in the bazaar or like farming for days for a stack of attempts.

The reason I asked about the panthers is that I have a friendly ranger who has been collecting yew leaves forever and has a ton of them that he is willing to give me for free. So I wanted to know how hard/easy it was to get the panther hides. It would be no problem for me to kill just about anything in the zone - I'm a necro with 215 AAs.

In the time it takes me to get one haze panther eye for my tinkering I'll get up to 1 stack of panther skins and 1-2 haze panther skins. Of course this may say a great deal more about the rarity of the eyes than of the skins, but I'd say the skins are not too hard to get. Sometimes I'd get no skin in 10 panthers killed, then 2 skins on the one after that one. If I could get all the leaves I needed I'd go for it in a second, the panther skins are by no means the worst tailoring farming I've done.

I tried out haze/panther armour late in the day and wished I'd tried it sooner. Yew leaves weren't a problem for me, and I found it a much nicer route than, say, AW. It's a breeze if you have a tracker to help you... essentially you never run out of cats to kill. Kinda hard to tear yourself away... just... this.... last... puma....
