Well, to check something hadn't changed I tried today a low quality cat pelt + shade silk thread in planar sewing kit and got a DNC. Those of you who are combining this, in what kit are you managing it?

Old world LQ pelt (bear/cat/wolf) + Shadeling silk thread will NOT combine.

      However

LQ Rockhopper pelt + Spiderling silk thread WILL combine

In other words, LQ Rockhopper pelts work with both sorts of thread, old world pelts only work with spiderling silk thread.

        Sorry scratch that, reverse it..

I mean I have used spiderling and rockhopper, as well as shadeling and rockhopper

I think I posted that at 4 Am hehe sorry for confusion

ummm... spiderling silk will work with lq hopper hides but shadeling only works with hopper hides.

You can make leather padding with all low quality pelts (rockhoppers, cat, wolf, bear, etc.) & spiderling silk.

You can only use shadeling silk with rockhoppers however.

            **EDIT**
Oops, maybe I should have read further down. hehe

I found Stonebrunt Mountains to be a good place to get cat pelts of all qualities. Most cats will drop at least an LQ pelt when you kill them. And, its usually empty. Don't bother killing the cat people. I don't think they drop pelts.

Stonebrunt is on Odus. You can get there via druid or wizard port, running through the Warrens, or by using the new Gunthak book in POK. When in Gunthak, click on the boat doors to zone into Stonebrunt.

Karisun, heroic protector (and healer when we tank for her) of cat people!!

Greyhoppers in MS are great to skin, the greyhopper hides are good for tailoring and the LQ hides for making leather padding. My personal favorite pelt zone (haven't hunted Nedaria's) is JP Forest. Lost of wolves, bears and poachers for pelts, plus if you're also a baker, wolf meat for Halas pies drops frequently along with griffon and anaconda meat.

As Dharla mentions above, you do know it is possible to do the following combines, don't you? :-

HQ pelt + skinning knife = MQ pelt
MQ pelt + skinning knife = LQ pelt

Seems some of you don't appear to know this

Actually, that's only half true. Silk thread WILL work with LQ hopperhides; however shadeling silk will not work with any other pelts besides hopperhides.

So hopperhides can use either silk thread or shadeling silk thread, but shadeling silk thread can not be used with cat, wolf, or bear pelts.

(So basically there's 5 valid recipes for leather padding: silk thread + LQ cat, bear, wolf, or hopperhide; and LQ hopperhide + shadeling silk thread).

BTW... Marus Seru isn't really the best place for LQ hides. Hoppers there mostly drop greyhopper hides, not that many LQ hopperhides. Best bet is to kill hoppers in Shadeweaver's Thicket; they drop LQ hides, as well as MQ and HQ that can be skinned down to LQ. Shadeweaver's is also a good place for shadeling silk (off the shades and shak drathas) so can get all you need for padding in the same zone.

Depending on level Jaggedpine poachers are the bestest drop rate. They drop a pelt(wolf, bear, cat) of any quality (low, med, high) quite often last time I was there. It raises your jaggedpine folks faction BUT mobs all a little higher prob 30-40 range I am guesssing sorry green to me at 65. I believe 1 nuke kills them though 1500 hp.

Actually, I found that it's about 50-50, which may or may not be good. It also appears that when I was there going for greyhopper hides for my cleric I looted 3 LQ for every 1 GH. When I went back for LQ hides, it was the opposite (sometimes I *swear* it's hardcoded to read my brain hehe).

However, ITLR I have noticed a 50-50 in the drop rate.
