2 skillups were on successes; 11.76% (there were not enough successes for this to be an accurate measure)

If I remember to log it I'll post the second batch of results. unfortunately I only went in with 30 chains and went till I ran out (skilled to 202 on the last success). Second batch will be significantly smaller, about 150 combines.

    ...

just curious but how much did that run cost you?

did you farm any of the components yourself based on that cost?

These numbers are all from memory, don't blame me for accuracy or lack thereof.

I bought most of the silks, farmed the rest (mostly bought). Honestly, they'd been sitting in my bank so long I don't remember how I got most of them. Some were bought on the cheap in bazaar, some were leftovers from Wu's, some were vendor mined.

All the celestial essence was made at cost (roughly 3200 for the whole batch).
The emeralds were bought from vendors and imbued by a guild druid, so no extra cost there.
All told It was 158 stacks CE (scent + solvent) at about 34pp per stack, 80 stacks of imbued emeralds at about 270pp apiece, 80 stacks of acid at about 2p apiece, and some stacks of tunic patterns at some negligible price.
I found a vendor one night in bazaar selling 17 gem studded chains for 220p apiece and bought them up.. if I'm not mistaken, that's below or **** close to cost, especially considering the fail rate on them.

So not counting the price of the silks (You can farm those if you want, or stick in some arbitrary value to find out the max you'd pay... but it was 79 stacks of silk swatches or 158 stacks of spider silk.) I spent just shy of 31k (30904pp) just in vendor-bought components in order to get 506 robe attempts, the first 356 of which you see here.

Just to play with the numbers a bit (since the final price will go up as I get more chains)... The total cost of emeralds + CE was about 27.1k. The portion that I used last night (356/506) was about 70 percent of that, plus the gem cost for a total of about 22.85k. With my rate last night, that was approximately 64pp per attempt (which is relatively cheap... if you buy silk swatches at 20p or spider silk at 10p apiece you're doubling your cost) or 1900pp per skillup.

Something more I feel I should add in relation to cost: The highest cost here is going to be TIME. Regardless of the 30k I spent on components, it took me, no kidding, about three days to get all the subcombines done. This isn't me clicking Combine-Autoinventory-Combine-Autoinventory for hours on end. This is me doing it at chunks of 9 or 10 stacks at a time. All told I had to make 3200 celestial essences, have 1600 emeralds imbued. Made those 1600 emeralds into 1600 tunare dusts. Turned 3200 spider silks into 1600 silk swatches. Combined the swatches, dusts, and remaining CE into about 1520 tunare silks. So altogether, that's 9600 subcombines. If you can click at the refresh rate of the tradeskill UI (assumed 3 seconds) it will take about 8 hours if you can do it nonstop, without going afk, switching to mules, etc. You will get so bored doing this that you will actually get out a calculator and work out how long it will take you to finish combining if you can click combine every 3 seconds.

So with that in mind, you might want to consider whether it's worth it for you to spend a couple extra k by buying your CEs in the bazaar instead of spending hours combining them. The same thing is true of silks, because farming takes longer than mindlessly clicking.

          ...

now that information adds up to a bunch of suck.

not the pricing but taking 8 hours for subcombining. Makes me want to use a macro program!!! probably another hour for the 500 or so robe combines!

Looking at those number I am left wondering if the 110pp I have pre combined tunare swatches at are a good price or not. I know it took me a long time to make them but I did not think about how long it really took me in total to make 900 swatchs.. just that I was able to put them up after 3 weeks of off and on work only to be undercut 1hr later by someone with 600 who restocked every other day..

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm only going to take tailoring to the min of 220 for the aid grimel quest...

Hmm, I’ve converted all my spider silks to swatches as I got them, and moved the swatches to a mule…I have over 800 swatches now…I think I am gonna start moving the swatches back to my main, 1 stack at a time, and converting them to sacred tunare silk swatches stack by stack….slowly but surely so I don’t go insane in one massive combining session.

You may feel differently when you notice how tough it is to get the Obsidianwood saps. The cheapest I have seen them sell for is like 15K each and usually it sells for over 20K.

With that said... each combine of CSR is going to cost you about 100 to 150 PP in swatches (if you make them yourself and buy the silks for 5 to 10PP each) and the gem studded chains will cost about 400PP (if you have a criendly chanter with JCM 3 to make them for you (and you lose it one in every 20 combines)... so you average cost per combine is going to be 120-170PP. You get a skillup once every 30 combines or so for a cost of about 3 to 5 K per skillup).

However, the most important factor is that you cannot improve your chances of a success once you get yourself to 220 PLUS geerlok (at least not if the triv is 250 and the eqtraders calculator is correct).

Now that I have thought it through I gues you are right. you can stop at 220 IF th triv is really 250 and IF the EQ calculator is correct. BUT everyone knows of some poor sap that has failed their combine like three times.
