  • Obsidianwood Sap Drop Rate

I have been farming sap for a long time on Firiona Vie so I know the drop rate is bad and I've had some long dry spells. BUT, my god! I have killed ~70 yellow con spiders from the second field in poFire since the DirX9 patch and not one sap.

Has the already aweful drop rate been made worse?

I think you just got unlucky. I've seen 2 saps drop from the same spider before, and I've gone over a week without seeing one before. It's totally random.

on average it takes me about 20 hrs per set of 3 saps....have gotten two in 3 spiders before and also gone 30-40 hrs without one.

        Saps

Aye, I have had long streatches before but this has been the worst. I did get one from a yellow con the other day after posting.

However, something has changed, I've started to get diamond drops from the spiders -- never used to get them before so something has changed on the loot table. I wonder if the diamonds would have been saps before making the sap drops that much rarer.

they only fall off of yellow con spiders, not the tree spiders in the first field?

No, they fall off the blue con in the first field but the xp is poor and you are competing against all the unskilled who hunt their.

I've farmed a set of three saps in about 8-10 hours spread out over several days, all from the blue-con spiders and spiderlings in the first field. I would set up camp just a short run south from the zone line, then pull all the spiders I could find. If none were up, we just pulled and killed other stuff (mephits drop tradeskill bits, common though they may be, along with the Living Fragment of Fire for the PoK gate talisman). It seems everything in that field is on a common spawn table, so we just killed random stuff and spiders would start appearing again.

I was in fire sometime last week killing mephits on my druid for my rogue twink's gate neck. Finally got the fragment and a spider was close. Since the rogue is doing Grimel as well (yah I'm crazy, doing Grimel on two seperate chars), I figured I'd grab the spider, see what happened.

                Dead spider #1 - Sap

Another spider was close, I was thinking, no way two in a row!

                Dead spider #2 - Sap

Three no way? Yes way. Three saps in a row from three consecutive spiders. If only doing this 6 months ago on my druid was easier, I had 30 odd some hours camping my first round of sap.

I kept killing spiders but never gotten anymore. Was hoping the loot tables were screwed up and all of them were dropping but no such luck

I just started farming spiders in the first field. solo that is, anyone else notice an odd warping on the mobs that are immune to snare? I pull the spiders to zone in then kite them back and forth, the ones that are immune to run speed changes warp on me making it much much more diffuclt to time things..any suggestions? Think a war, cleric wiz combo could do it? war has around 8.8k hps raid buffed and cleric prolly around 5k mana and wiz has 5.4k....Our would we need a slower as well? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The field 1 spiders are weak, don't really need slowing (max hit like 644 on me), the field 2 spiders have some major assbeat (max hit 1100ish), so you'll definitely want to slow them.

Doesnt matter if spiders drop crap when the combine fails

Yes, but if the spiders don't drop anything, you can't even fail.
