Your aren't doing the solstice robe combines?

I found that to be a much better path to go from about 190 to 210 (2 freebie points) then 212 to 215.

I did mixed Wyvern, Black Panther, Haze Panther and Sabertooth combines from 215 to 250.

Oh did I mention, DING 250 TAILERING!!!!!

Someone up there mentioned CVT's and costing near nothing now. Unfortunately, if my memory serves me correctly, CVT's ewre once again removed ina patch not too long ago with the comment that they were never meant to be sold again in the first place.

I'll reserve judgement for a couple of nights, but either the Wyvern Hide drop rate has been nerfed or there's some algorithm that figures in my level and time spent in the zone.

For the last 4 nights I've experienced a drop rate of 1 in 25 if I'm lucky. Nothing conclusive, but I should know something after a few more sessions; so far there's a noticeable difference.

I realize the RNG could be on a roll as a harsh mistress, but this seems abnormal... we'll see.

I agree 100% with Taushar. The drop rates will drive you to the bazaar. Don't expect to sell your successes. You'll be much better off and much happier to go buy the ingredients to do whatever is the cheapest combine that will get you a skillup. Tailoring is so much harder than smithing it's laughable. With the time you save from buying in the bazaar you can go farm, xp, run, frolick etc and earn back the money you gave away to the greedy punk traders. Farming will force a sane person to give up. Dont give up.

Farming will force a sane person to give up.
Nairn's choice of paths for tailoring should pretty much prove that sanity is completely out of the question even if it wasn't before solely by virtue of chosing tailoring at all.

Same as the guy above who suggested solstice robe combines in place of this missed the entire point of this path I think, which is to be very slow but cheap to the point of nearly free. The chains can hardly be considered cheap vs farmed components. Yes yes, "but you could farm way more plat in the time it takes to farm those pelts", this is true. But I know I certainly find it boring to farm plat all the time and to me it's a nice feeling to farm your own components - even if it's not the most efficient path.

Not everyone plays on the path of maximized efficiency and from past posts I get the impression Nairn enjoys the journey itself a great deal more than most other players. Which I find quite admirable, in my experience it's been a rare trait to find in an MMOG player these days.

The bad part of wyvern armor is that it requires velium STUDS, not velium boning.

Velium boning takes 1 small brick of velium (hence 1 block or large brick broken down into a small brick) and 1 velium temper per boning. Velium studs take 6 small pieces (or 3 small, large or blocks broken down) and 4 velium tempers for two studs. Which means while the boning has a yield ratio of 1 brick/boning and 1 temper/boning, studs have a ration of 3 bricks/2 studs, or 1.5/1, and 4 temper/2 studs or 2/1. I.E. studs require more velium farming and costs twice as much in temper. Tigeraptor is the same.

The optimal velious tailoring option is black panther/haze panther/cobalt drake, all of which use velium boning rather than studs. But these are harder to farm. There are 4 cobalt drakes in Cobalt Scar vs. over 20 wyverns available to farm. Black panthers wander and require tracking, are more agressive, and you run the risk of adds. Haze panthers are tougher customers and rarer spawns still. And yew leaves are a much rarer forage. Drake eggs are much easier, as long as your faction is good in skyshrine. Otherwise you gotta haul your happy buns to Western Wastes.

I have been keeping an eye on this thread as i am soon to be doing a run of wyvern tailoring.

In years gone by i leveled in CS, back when Velious was the newest expansion. Remember then, the good old days, when nobody saved wyvern hides cos there was no Bazaar. I would buy em off the expers in the zone and spent may levels there myself.

Well stashing them away on various mules i am now a 224 tailor and i have dusted them off and am furiously making velium studs whenever i can get velium. In a week or so (when i have the studs and Cod) I will be making a run of over 15 stacks of wyvern masks.

                    I will keep you posted.

dont think the drop rate has been nerfed. averaging 12 wyvern, 2 drake pelts an hour.

the above poster pointed out the real pain i.e. the studs.

on quellious the pelts can be found in the bazaar at outrageous prices, same with velium QQ

Eloquently put, and I thank you. Yes, for me, the journey is the game.

A minor update, 5 more stacks of Hides got me 1 skillup; that's about in line with what I would expect; and the drop rate did improve. I just wasn't averaging a long enough time frame.

I got only 3 skillups (to 193) burning 9 stacks wyvern costing about 100pp each hide, that was 2 months ago and wyvern has increased significantly in price as I prepare another run of 10 stacks. WIS is maxxed at 255 for me, if I don't have better luck with the RNG, I may stop tailoring at 200. Smithing only took me 7 stacks from 190 to 200 doing velium bits. Is there any explanation for the difference in skillup rate besides the RNG? I camped a couple times during the wyvern run when I didn't get a skillup after 40 combines to try and reset it. When I did that smithing, it changed my luck by reseeding the RNG and I'd get 2-3 skillups in a burst of combines. It is the darnfishing that takes so much time.

Zumavt - wyvern armor trivials at 335, enchanted velium bits trivial at 222. You get twice as much chance of a skill-up when the combine succeeds.

You might want to level up and get Planar Power so you can get your wis to 305/355, skill-up chances increase linearly with Wis.
