Only if you're already gotten your earring(s) and just doing the combine for the sake of doing it.

I tried around 3 sets of 25-30 attempts from skill 191-199 I made one robe, but after I hit 250 plus Trophy I avg from 45-60% on robes.

I wouldn't recommend it, failed over 200 attempts between 180-186 skill with no success.

My *first* combine on a Robe at 158 succeeded....I skilled up to 189 on Robes and only made about 10 more.

Robes seem to be not affected by the 5% success rate. It's either that or some people just have bad luck...

120 Robe attempts at skill 187ish (plus gearlok):

2 Successes (1 on my third attempt)
No skill ups (part of a 160 combine run without skill up)

at 207 I am succeeding about 1 in 10 and getting skillups about 1 in 20-30

My robe experience

I haven't kept a strict detailed count, but here's what I've experienced:

First 250 or so, mostly before PoP (skill 168 to 190): 20 Skill ups, 10 robes.
Then about 140 miserable attempts (skill 190): 0 skill ups, 1 robe.
Last 50 something (skill 190 to 195): 5 skillups, 2 robes.

Total success rate about 2.5%, but the first and third group are 4%. This is far from enough samples for a decent analysis, but are we really sure the minimum success rate is 5% ? Even if it were 5% once, they may have stealth changed it without letting us know.

Between 173 and 200 skill (holding geerlok), I averaged one robe per 26 attempts.
At 200+ plus geerlok I often get about 3-4 robes per 20 attempts (that's why I stand afk in the bazaar so much now! /sigh)

Averaging around 1 in 20 on solstice robes from 155 to 191 skill while using a gearlok. Haven't done any tailoring since pushing to 211 right before the 11/19 patch.

Have exact data at home from 155 to 211, broken down to number of attempts/successes per point. Skillup from 155 to 191 was almost all Solstice robes with some Velious and Fleeting quivers mixed in. Robe success rate hovered around 5% with a few long runs of no robes balanced out by runs with multiple robes.

This might hurt to hear, but 3 days ago, I was 164 and I have 4 chains and 38 combines worth on Tunarian silks. I made 4 robes in 31 atempts and got 3 skill-ups. Today I tried 6 attempts and 1 skill-up with no robes.

from 0 to about 188 you will get lots of skill ups and maybe make some robes. Like any skill when you are at the lower skill level skill ups come frequently but don't assume it will always be like this.

If you look at posts from people in the 188-200 range you will see many having to do 100-200 attempts per skill up. It happens to a lot of us and I personally had a 221 combine skill up at 244.

As with any combine that is in the 5% category you DO get a chance at making stuff beyond your reach. A person with tailoring skill 20 has the same chance at one with skill 200 doing a 5% click.

Just saying this since I see many saying how skilling up isnt so bad when they have yet to hit the nasty levels
