  • Holgresh/Othmir/Velium Hound

I've done Solstice robes, I've done Wyvern Masks. I'm tired of both methods. I'm looking at Velious Fur now.

Of the 3 fur methods, does anyone know if one fur animal has more drops then others? Better skillups on one type over another?

I'm aware of the othmir faction and I'm ready to slaughter them. Just wondering if one of the other two furs would be a better path.

    Currently at 196 tailoring

Othmir are the only viable Velious fur skill gain option. Velium Hounds are very rare and sought after for the Shawl quest, and Holgresh fur combines are very expensive because they take distilled mana (250 platinum per combine on top of the 2 furs).

I am in favor of the Othmir fur. In a small sample size (100-200 combines), I would say I averaged 1 skillup every 12 or so combines...never going more than 22 without getting a skillup. Again, that is a small sample size and should not be suggested as pattern or indicative of faster skillups. Additionally, they are easy (relatively) to Quad Kite for a druid and only slighly more difficult for a wizard.

Since CVTs must be manufactured and the othmir are the only sellers of one of the components, they may not be the creature of choice to kill now.

Otter are the way to go since they are almost all static spawns. And yes, any otter can drop fur to be sure to kill the babies and shellfish collectors.

Chief is immune to snare and stun and is generally a punk. If you're going to clean the beach of otters, kill him first. Otherwise, harmony/whatever to keep him from aggroing.

The named at the south end are a little higher level than the regular warriors, but keeeel them.

But don't touch the merchants at the north end. They will be kos (or will eventually), but they won't aggro.

Tip: If you have a second account, bring a mule with you to CS and load him up with the extra crap that drops (crusty armor, gems, spears, etc.) - he can then toddle over and sell to the merchants so you can hold more and have a nice little cash farming going on.

Othmir are certainly the way to go. They can sometimes be stingy with their furs but as a druid I don't think I saw any less than 2 furs every 3 quads. Killing the cute little shriners can be tricky depending on your class as well. Any class that can harmony/lull should have few problems. If you are a wizard and want to quad they will probably be green to you and should pose no further problems (there is a reason you don't see any wizards quadding them for xp after wyverns start to go lblue--its next to impossible to gather more than 1 or 2 without aggroing the chief, quest npc's, or shaman). For the classes that will be killing them one at a time, I would suggest that you hunt ONLY the northermost camp and areas around it. There is far less than can go wrong at this camp than at the other 2 (no chief, no quest mobs and only 2 shaman) Chernier was right that the merchants will not aggro but they won't actually go down to KOS, only to dubious...so if you are a class/race that can sneak then you can still buy/sell as you please.

              Good hunting

After being ally to othmir and now almost kos to em, i will note that the 2 named down at the other end from the Chief are HUGE faction hits. Stick with the non-names and youll stay out of kos for a while.

I tried panther-hunting in the latter stages of skilling up. Wished I'd tried it sooner... check track in WL and you'll ALWAYS see a bunch of panthers and a few haze panthers - not like over-camped CS! (And I quadded othmirs a few times but my conscience got the better of me. Those 'indifferent' stares on their li'l furry faces were just too much)

The yew leaves are a pita though. But I believe the cost of the boning works out cheaper than the studs for arctic wyvern (which I personally used for the majority of my upper skilling-up).

And another important point: haze panther and black panther armour still commands a premium price in the bazaar, because not many people bother with it.

P.S. If you get bored you could always kill raptors for skins too.
P.P.S. Haze panther eyes are good for tinkers.

I have seen holgresh furs dropping in the everfrost ldon adventures.

May not be as fast but you, could get adventure points while getting them.
