202 tailoring to ??? in 795 combines

So over the last month I've been farming as many tailoring components as I could. The only things that were bought are the research items and dyes for the robes, drake egg oil, and yew leaf tannin.

And an endless supply of Strands of Ether for my 2 free skill points!

It'll probably take me a few days to combine all this stuff, but if all goes well I'll be 240+ really soon.

I was in the same position last week. I had 553 Solstice Robe combines, 319 Arctic Wyvern, then another 400 Arctic Wyvern.

The Solstice robes got me from 202 to 229 (I did Ethereal Silk Swatches for the two freebie points)

The 719 Arctic Wyvern combines got me 1 point, getting me to 230.

I just did about 250 combines mostly arctic wyver and cobalt drake with 20 combines of othmir fur caps.

Went from 224 to 229

did you stop at a certain point or did you do all 700ish in a row? because that is crazy, there should be no reason you do that many combines and only get 1 skill up.

i had a hell level of about 120 combines without a skill up, but 700 doesnt make much sense to me. after 230 it only took me about 400 to get to 250.

The 319 were done in one day, zoning between PoK, Qeynos, Rivervale and Fironia Vie with I think 3 campouts.

The 400 were done over the course of two days, zoning between PoK, Qeynos, Rivervale, Fironia Vie, Kaladim, The Bazaar and Freeport with about 6 campouts.

I figure it's just the way it goes. Sure it would be nice to get 21 skill ups in 719 combines, but even if I would have got 0 skillups in 719 combines it wouldn't be the end of the world. It's just a game afterall =). So I farm more stuff - oh well, I enjoy playing the game!

That many combines and you take it so well.... i was close to throwing ALL my toys out of my pram when I went 143 combines at 193 skill.

oh, forgot to mention. put my geerlok brewing thing on, made the curing agent, then did the robe combine at 242 skill . . . with my brewing geerlok still being worn. and succeeded! wee!

Want disgusting? Try casserole dishes - I did 27 stacks of combines ( 4 stacks of materials per stack of combines - including that evil ass ceramic lining ) and got 0 skill ups. I was sooo ready to scream it wasnt funny. Did those 27 stacks over 2 or 3 days while raiding and other crap. Had to store half the patterns i needed on a mule alt and dual box them.

700+ combines and only 1 skillup? That would have been enough to have gotten me to stop farming for a while and probably take a break for a few months. I know it's just a game but man, that's hours upon hours upon hours of farming wasted...

I feel your pain Drukin. Certainly doing that many combines and getting one 1 skill for 700 tries is unreasonable, considering the average is 20 per skill up.

I did about 50 combines of arctic wyvern and then with no skill up and only one success I stopped because I've combined these at much lower skill level for more skill ups and more successes in the past.

I have a feeling that those people at S.O.E secretly do these patches constantly which may affect certain things. (Usually npc vendors after a patch have no player sold items on them, only what they are selling by default. I notice that many times I would log into eq w/o have to 'download' [ie patch] anything and yet the vendors have been 'reset')

There was a bug with the coldain velium vendor selling tempers for 'free' so perhaps action was taking to 'counteract' this by making skillups much much higher until they felt everyone used it up and then they would restore the normal skillup rates.

Conspiracy theory huh?

That'll be a server reset, crash or server-side only patch. You only have to download files if they are patching the client, but any time the server comes down and up again it resets all the vendors.
