  • Cheap Loy Ribbons ?!?

The other day I decided to try the loy ribbons for skilling up, I really hate farming and so the storebought ease of this ( other than foraging the dye components which isn't so bad as the stupid rockhoppers LOL ).. made it very appealing.

However.... after buying a stack or two of ribbons and doing a few combines I park my mule in the bazaar to sell them for then night when I see... ack!!! the ribbons I made are only selling for 35pp?!?!?! Which means essentially a loss of about 75pp per combine for me.

Is there any reason why someone would be selling these so much below cost? Is there another way to get the ribbons other than buying them from that guy in Gunthak? 75pp may not be alot to some people but I would gladly suffer the boredom of farming rather than losing that amount of pp on every combine I do ugh.

That's not really a bad loss of pp. If you were to buy the materials to do the studded hopperhide products, you would be losing considerably more. The pelts on my server go for around 1-200pp each, then you have the cost of the acrylia.

If you really don't mind the tedium of farming, you can be like my GL who, according to him and my other friends, has spent almost 2 years farming stuff for tailoring. Currently he is at 230 and is farming velks for velium. Once he has used up the couple hundred wyvern hides he has, he will just go the route of haversacks.

So, whichever you choose to do, good luck to you. It is a long and tedious skill to persue.

I personally am hoping for a skill up on my shawl after having stopped at Wu's.

I just vendored the ribbons, ate the pp loss, and counted myself lucky. If ribbons could have taken me above 187 I would have done it. Even at a 100pp loss per combine, it's better than a lot of the alternatives for skillups.

What are ribbons used for anyway?

Most people who are working on the robes prefer to dye their own ribbons. That way they can select which ribbon they need based on the swatches they have. (otherwise you get stuck with a bunch of ribbons of one kind and swatches of the other...)

That is why the resale value on the ribbons is so low.
I have some on my trader, priced below what it would cost to actually make them... and they sell excruciatingly slow.

When you get up to the platinum ribbons, I think it's actually cheaper to switch to robes if you have that option.

Going by the numbers you posted, I'll assume you're working with Platinum ribbons. The reason that they sell so poorly in the bazaar is because of their extremely specialized use. You have to remember that each dyed platinum ribbon is used in only one recipe, which can only be created by players of one race. Obviously this limits the number of potential buyers for a specific colored ribbon by a considerable amount. Add to that the fact that the robes created with platinum ribbons all trivial over 250, therefore further limiting your market to characters with a tailoring skill in the 200's, and you're looking at a very small segment of the population that'll be interested in those ribbons.

Also, don't forget that of the small group you're left with after considering all of the previous factors, some of those folks probably skilled up on platinum ribbons just like you. If they were thinking ahead they worked with the two dyes that'd result in ribbons they would be able to use to make robes.

And of course, if all that wasn't bad enough, there's the further issue of research component rarity. Platinum Grey Ribbons, for example, are used to make the Dark Elf Robe of Argli. The research component required for this robe is Yaeth's 73 Right. Considering the absurd scarcity of this item, and the fact that you'd be better off using it to make Remove Greater Curse, one can safely assume that there's practically zero market for Platinum Grey Ribbons. There are probably similar situations with some of the others, being a Dark Elf, that's the one I know off the top of my head.

Yeah for the robes the swatch is the killer!
