  • Experimenting Useless

As I am VERY new on EQ this questions were surely raised before but i couldn't find a satisfying answer anywhere....

    ...so the questions are

    1. Do I have to stick to the exact recipes while tailoring?

Is there even the slightest chance that at least a high quality pelt of a lvl 10+ mob gives me a pleasant surprise while substitued for a low quality pelt in a simple cloak or belt recipe. Or is it only a 100% waste of material?

PS: The only recipe I found in your database so far which gives the choice between two different pelts and yields exactly the same result is the tailor made whip

    2. Is all pelt/fur based or silk-based NON-MAGICAL Equipment the same colour no matter which is the raw material?

    3. Is it possible to dye leather armour or silk PERMANENTLY (or at least planned to give players more opportunity than the "on-charakter dye" in the future)?

Although these questions have nothing much to do with moneymaking or skillbuilding I hope them to be interesting for others too

    1. Yes, at least if you want that particular item. Using a higher 'quality' will sometimes be a valid recipe, but it will create something else, and might require a higher skill level. Check that higher version's component to see what it makes. Some items can be created multiple ways, like a pie tin, or leather padding. If your combination of items doesn't follow a valid recipe, nothing wil happen, the so called DNC (or Does Not Combine).

    2. Try it out in-game, I'd say.. low-level stuff like that usually costs less then 1pp to make anyway. race and gender dictate the shape and any 'patterns' used, though color is always the same.

    3. No. Only fine plate can be perma-dyed. The rest can only be done with LoY dyes. Only plate classes get the all the cool customization features.

Oh, and sorry to say this, but your questions aren't interesting

Whoa, hope that was sarcasm, otherwise way harsh. Since he's self proclaimed "very new", might want to cut him some slack.

          Is Experimenting useless?

The answer is - NO -

The likelyhood of actually producing something new, that nobody has reported before is of course very, very, very small...

But Sony has always said there are lots of recipes not yet reported. Who knows? Maybe your experimentation will turn up something that wasn't known before... maybe the Hot Sauce

Is it a waste of resources/materials?

The answer is - NO -

If the recipe you try is not in the game, you will get a DNC (Does Not Combine) result, and lose nothing. What you have lost is the time required to put the items in the container and hit the 'combine' button.

I still remember crafting the first velium weapons when the DNC would eat the items...It opened up a whole new avenue of experimentation in crafting weapons. It continues to this day.
