  • Skill-ups: Success & Failures

Ok, this is actually a two-parter.

First, how solid is the evidence that you get more skill-ups on a success than a failure? Does working with an item that is closer in trivial to your skill really help, or should I just go ahead and make whatever I have the components for.

Second, with KEI my WIS goes over the cap of 255. Does this factor in when I'm doing my tradeskilling, or am I working with an effective WIS of 255.
    Thanks,
    Em

    A. There are several people on both sides of the fence. There are several posts (do a search) trying to proove that statement. It can't hurt to do closer trivials, but do whatever you want to do.

    B. If your wis/int cap is 255, your cap is 255. There is no hidden bonus stats unseen under the table.

I don't think anyone has definitely proved that you skill up more frequently when you suceed. It has been my experience with Jewelcraft that it seems help your skill ups by attempting things you are closer to trivial. Again, this is just my impression based on how long it took to get a skill up when I was always within 3 or 4 points of trivial vs those stretches when I was 30 or 40 points from trivial.

If you are capped at 255 I believe that is the number used in the caculation regardless of your potential.

There are 2 reasons I would do stuff closer to your trivial -

It will trivial out soon so you won't be able to do that anymore - save the higher end stuff for when you need it -

My second thought on the subject is that stuff closer to your trivial always seems to be in higher abundance than the higher end stuff - with the exception of solstice robes/shadowscream armor (and even those have their exceptions) - so in the end doing the lower triv stuff first will save you plat and money, and probably frustration as most lower combines tend to take less components as well.

I also have noted that there is a perceptible increase in skill up rate when you do stuff closer to your triv level but I have no where near the number of combines needed to definitively "prove" that. I'm a 220+ tradeskiller in all skills except tailoring (188 with 120 solstice combines prepared )
