  • Silk drop nerf ??

I've been trying to raise tailoring as my last sub-235 skill for the Aid Grimel quest. Well with tailoring, we all know what that means...lots and lots of silk.....and then some more silk. I was off farming spider silk in EK by AE'ing anything that crawled, ran, and slithered. I noticed the spiders now drop a NO DROP thorax or femur, hence using up a slot on their loot table. Kicker is, they always drop one or the other. I spent a good 4 hours at least farming spiders, not one Crag Spider dropped 8 silks. I would say the Crag spider now drops 2-3 silk on average.

Kind of sucks since tailoring is already a hard enough skill to raise. It would also explain the tripling of silk/swatch prices on my server within the last week.

Anyone else notice this recently or did I miss a post about this change ?

Those no drop femurs and thoraxs showed up with the Nov 5th patch. I don't know what they are for but they certainly drop ALOT.

Prices for silks have been up on my server for quite a while.

IIRC, the thorax (at least) is used for one quest (or line of quests) in one particular place, but is now dropped by just about any sizable spider model mob in the game. (pre-PoP, etc., of course) It certainly is annoying, even to someone who doesn't farm silks.

Of course, there are non-spider mobs that drop spider silk...

i believe goblins (sol a/runnyeye) sometimes drop them. and i know they're foraged in mistmoore adventures now, too. not that that's actually helpful for most of us

and yes, those new thorax and femur drops are annoying beyond belief. i think they're used for halfling quests (not really sure) but drop in all of antonica, faydwer, odus, and even in the field of bone (only true spider spot i can think of for kunark)...not really sure if drachnids or the kaesora spiders drop 'em too

Not just in dreadlands. The lower lvl versions in FV drop plenty, but never seen more then 2 on one Drachnid, but it's common for them to drop 2 at a time.

The silk drop rate on Lava Duct Crawlers in Sol B seems to be unchanged. That's not exactly a prime farming spot, of course.

I've seen four very rarely, and six once...I think.

Plus they occasionally drop dyestuff for ribbons, cash and research items.

The FV drachnids was what I was hinting at, by the way.

Still can't understand why anyone would want that much spider silk.

Some slaughter in Marus Seru yields a ton of greyhopper hides that take you up to 95.
The, hunting lions in EK - lots of HQ pelts, making quivers to 115.
Then, spend some time in CC farming crystalline silks. I think I spent 3-4 hours in spider tunnel there to get to 131 tailoring.

Then the 131-158 stretch is the only time when you actually need the silk to make Wu. Personally, I farmed FV drachnids. They might have lower per kill droprate compared to EK crags, but there seems to be a bazillion of them crawling around tunnel entrance at any given moment. I just sit on my horse, and tash them - my pet does the rest. In EK, you spend 90% of your time running looking for those things.

um. i am just now level 41. takes a group to kill the spiders if you get a lot of adds. might be good for higher levels but ek crags help a lot getting to 82. i did go back and quad hoppers and lion though. had enough cc silk to get to 124. then got impatient wanting to twink my bst and made wu's stuff for her and got to 129 that way. had geerlock or prolly woould have waited though.

                            Bregalad,

Learn a bit more about tailoring before posting such nonsense! Grasshopper, you have a ways to go

I am a 241 tailor, with trophy, and I am using more silks than I can hunt to raise my skill to 250.

There is more to the world of silk than <<shudder>> Wu's armor.
