  • Why not Othmir?

I have been doing alot of reading on these forums (thank you all for the great information) in prepartion for doing tailoring on my way to getting the Coldain Shawls.

I have been reading alot about skilling up 180+, and seeing people mentioning Wvyerns for the armor, but have been seeing no one mention the Othmir Fur items for skilling up and I am wondering why? It seems cheaper as you only need two furs, a vial of mana and a pattern.

    Are the furs rare?

Are they always camped? (doesnt seem so on Xegony)

Are people worried about faction? If so why?

    Tough to kill?

Othmirs just didn't seem like an option to most people so I was curious as to why.

    thanks!

Othmirs are the only ones that sell certain baking and brewing ingredients, so, many folks do indeed worry about that faction.

I think it's partly faction issues. I have never hunted them myself but I understand they aren't terribly rare nor terribly common either.

However, I have tried to skill up on some of them. And it takes A LOT of them.

I 'm a druid so it'd be easy for me to kill them in large numbers... but
... since I'm a druid it's easier for me to get to cs than say a mule of mine.

I know that back before PoP they were camped pretty much 24/7. That may have changed now. They are a great source if you quad or just can kill them fast. Even the pups drop pelts.

I am max KOS to otters (and proud of it!).

Yes, they are an excellent skill up producer and done correctly, great on the bank account as well.

I used to quad both the north and south camps and leveld from 58-60 plus a buncha AA's (this was pre-pop and lvl 65). I have a second account and would bring two mules from that account with me and park one at each end of the beach (my med spots).

Otters drop fur, crusty armor, quest gems, vendor gems, otter spears, etc. Save everything - and if you've brought your mules with you, dump stuff on the mules. I used to fill up the two mules and myself and then kill the mules (always have mules under lvl 10 bound in the bazaar - killing them is a free port and they keep all their gear and bags) and con someone into bringing me another mule (this was when CS was hotly contested soloing grounds).

And having mules is handy for purchasing stuff from the merchants and/or selling the dropped otter crap back to them. muwhahahaha

Anyway, yup, everybody can drop all that stuff.

Okay, mobs: othmir warriors and pups are the guys you want to start with; all warrior mobs so no casting.

As a druid, I would harmony the two named at the south end of the beach (Quargy and the other dude) and pull the 4 warriors around that camp. At the north end, I'd just pull the 4 warriors around the merchants - the merchants are lower level and have a smaller aggro range.

If I was pulling the chief camp (which has 7 warriors), definitely harmony the chief. Even at lvl 65, I have to harmony him before I can snare off the warriors that are around his tent.

Don't mess with the chief. He hits purty hard, runs as sow speed and is immune to snare/root. (tho I kill the bastige for fun sometimes - fear me!).

The other groups of otters are the pups (there's a tent of them near the chief and a bunch north of the merchants), otter shell collector or something like that (they wander and once you're kos, can be quite a nuisance) and otter shamans. You can certainly kill all these guys (and they will drop everything else), but the shamans are shamans, suck for kiting and have nasty shaman spells.

Anyway, lemme know if you have any more otter questions...I can quad them in my sleep (and have!)
