Normal tailoring exp, good, or bad?

I did 100 robe combines last night and got 1 skillup. Ugh. That'll teach me to only do 100 at a time. I'll plan on larger batches in the future.

I've averaged 8 skillups per 200 combines (ie 1/25) that's with a 355 int.

Until you reach about 205 skill, you'll average about a 5% success rate (that being the built-in minimum chance). Since both of your runs were below that skill, your skill was functionally identical each time (for purposes of making robes). Given that, it was just random chance that you hit that 5% two times in one run and four times in another.

So if u only look at Robe comvines here are the numbers:

301 attempts
9 skill ups
13 success

Looking at my progress I would say Acrylia studded were better way to skill up but that could be because the skill was lower so chance of skill ups higher?
