  • Secondary stat for tailoring

I was told by a friend of mine if I increased my dexterity I would improve my rate of success on combines. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I am a 250 tailor with trophy on Lanys

    Thanks, Xanthalis

Confirm that that is not valid.

At one Fan Faire many moons ago, Yak said dex was secondary. And at every subsequent FF, Yak and his successors have said that that was a mistake.

Wis or Int is all you need.

    *edit*
I should add, however, that some superstitutious folks still think that dex has something to do with it or getting their dex up is part of their combine ritual, in which case, feel free.

personally i don't KNOW for sure that dex helps but i make sure to increase all ym stats as mucha s i can jsut to cover my bases. it doens't hurt to get buffed even if it doesn't help. placebo effect is a great ally when doing skillups

When starting a new character, you will now get information about what the stats do to your character.
Dex is listed as secondary for Fletching,
        Str is secondary for Smithing,
Int/Wis is for all other skills.

(Secondary meaning, that this stat will be checked for skill ups, instead of int or wis if it is higher)

So even if Dex was a secondary stat for tailoring, it still wouldn't do any good unless you can raise your dex higher than your int/wis.

For fairs sake, just get shaman buffs too, max both. Bards are lucky, J dont have to worry about buffs to max either

Does this mean Str does not affect Smithing?

It means it only affects smithing in terms of "skilling up" if it's higher than your wis/int. I still try to buff myself up before making a huge combine just to be on the safe side, regardless of my belief that stats don't mean jack in an actual combine. It doesn't hurt.

As the original post mentioned success rate, I just wanted to say that the only thing that matters there is your skill, plus any skill modifier item you have. (ignoring specialized JC and poison AA's)

stats do NOT affect success rate.
