  • Quality Rockhopper?

I've always made my leather paddings using old-world ingredients, but after reading several posts on the subject I finally bit the bullet and decided to try the Luclin route. Shadeling silks are really cheap on my server (2 pp each), so I figured I could just farm some rockhopper hides and be on my way.

Several people have mentioned Marus Seru as the best place, so I went there for about an hour yesterday just to try it out. I really didn't do all that well. I kind of wandered the zone, and while I found a reasonably steady supply of greyhoppers, it didn't seem like the drop rate was all that good. More than that, however, was dealing with the constant aggros from other mobs. I was never in any danger (55 warrior), but I was killing at least two aggro mobs for every greyhopper, which really slowed things down.

I'm wondering if I'm going about this the wrong way. Any additional tips on this zone would be appreciated; or if anyone can suggest another place for LQ/MQ rockhopper hunting for a non-tracker of my level, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance.

i quad greyhoppers at lv 40. you should prolly beat this rate. on average i see one greyhopper, 2 lq hopper, and a no pelt corpse per run. i quad so am bias towards a 4 loot thing though so prolly isn't that pretty. the recuso or guards will take the zelniaks and lightcrawlers. i let some general guy get close to me and make him a base. any adds i run back to him. recuso dont kill greyhopper that i have seen. stonedgrabbers never aggro unless i am picking on one.

I didn't quad, but my experience in Marus Seru was similar. The Stonegrabbers won't aggro unless you want them to. The Recuso were friendly enough NOT to attack me and would come to my aid when I trained to them (mostly zelniaks and an occasion lightcrawler). And I got LQ rockhopper on about half of the drops, with greyhopper and/or rockhopper eggs, etc., on the others. At the time even the greyhopper was desirable -- I used it to skill up tailoring to 95. In fact, that greyhopper armor sells pretty well, an easy combine can make you 10pp per pelt, which is good loot at that level of difficulty for a by product of LP farming.

Thank you both. I took your advice and tried it again. I found that I could run around and gather up anywhere from 6 to 10 Greyhoppers at a time. If I had any Lightcrawler or Zelniak adds, I would just run to the nearest Recuso and they would deal with it.

I would lose at most 10 percent of my health fighting a stack of Greyhoppers and using this method was able to gather a couple stacks of LQ hides in less than an hour.

I'll probably make this my regular hunting grounds for Leather paddings from now on.

          Stonebrunt

If you are looking for lq & mq pelts the best place to hunt for them in my experience has been Stonebrunt. Most all the cats thereabout drop them, and I've always found low quality and better, never a ruined pelt on any of them.
          Good luck,

cept old wolrd pelts dont work with shade silk. only grey hopper does. the shadeling silk he is buying i think. its cheaper in his bazaar or easier to farm i forget.

Exactly. Shadeling silk sells for anywhere from 1 pp to 1 and a half pp each in A Ro bazaar and is plentiful. Spiderling silk is not only more expensive (5 pp + each) but is rarely available in quantity.

By far, DSP is the best place... if the rockhoppers are up, that is.

Unfortunatly, I don't want to make padding, as my tailoring is 182 atm (so I'm going for superb and flawless). I usually end up with a LOOOOT of unwanted hides, which go into my bank for later smithing...

I do tend to kill them by the dozens though
