ok this is something i jsut thought of and i'm sure it won't work but i'll try anyways. before the advent of lor and pop etc... what recipes were used to get skills upover 170? i was curious sincei never got past cured silk before the expansions. so what was used to get skill ups before each expansion?

before Luclin and POP to get over 170 you did this >

    Velious Stuff.

Yes, straight from 170 to a 250+ tiv combine. Insane i know... i am so glad Luclin came out when i was at that level.

And before Velious... the void. Okay, my mind is blanking on whether halfing/wood elf cultural tailoring was added pre-Velious, but I know for certain there was a time when tailored quivers were as high as it went. How's that for a reminder to be grateful?

Yes Tailored Quivers was the highest you could go pre-Velius, except for the Fleeting Quiver. But the recipe for the Fleeting Quiver was not found until after Velious came out so 115 was the highest you could go until Velious.

ok so let me get this right....

          spiderling silks
          spider swatch
          patchwork
          raw silk
          cured silk
          backpacks and other containers
          quivers
          velious
          fleeting??

there wasn't any maschoists that wanted to take tailoring over fleeting quiver? i'm sure there had to be someone that wanted the skill at 250. i know i'm going back a logn ways but do any of you old schoolers remember what you did before any expansions? i quit with cured silk and made enough backpacks to carry what i needed.....remember the good old days when 80p seemed liek a fortunate for a bear skin and a pattern? heh

            See Mother, Den type.

Niami was the first 250 tailor anywhere and pioneered through the velious tailoring. I believe, though I'm not sure, that she did not know what the trivials were for any of those items she was making until she got to 250 and found out they were all still not trivial.

And I believe she started on Velious from tailored quivers (some one will correct me if I'm wrong). There was definitely no fleeting quiver recipe in game at that time.

I would be surprised if there was even another skill 200 tailor anywhere when she GM'ed.

I've always been in awe of this accomplishment.

To correct your assumptions YurienStonebow... Tailored Quivers did go to 115 but you could also attempt to make the Fleeting Quiver from the start of EQ. The pattern for it has always been available in game, it's just that noone knew what the correct RECIPE was for it prior to the Velious expansion.

You could conceivably have gone to 222 (Fleeting Quiver Trivial) if you knew what the Fleeting Quiver Recipe was... but even so, with HQ Lion Skins so rare, I do not think many people would have contemplated that move

P.S. Congratulations on Niami on being the first 250 Tailor I had not known that, and since you made it through the Velious Armors, an even greater accomplishment to stick to it since it's such a pain

                No.

The ability to take one tradeskill over 200 was added in the September 17, 2000 patch to Everquest. Prior to this, the cap was 200.

Edit: That was during Late Kunark era.

Due to an oversight, quality lion skins did not enter the game until after the Velious expansion was released. For an awfully long time, lions only dropped quality cat pelts.

So, nobody was going to 222 any time before they did.

Hmm, re: fleeting quiver, when did they add aviak eggs? I seem to remember when they added them, some time after the idea of tannins were added.

My husband remembers lots of rumors about the fleeting quiver, much like all the Fiery Avenger rumors. Heck, what would the fleeting quiver have done, since originally didn't add haste to bows.

Okay, letting my husband comment, as about as old school as non-beta can get:
Originally, in tailoring, you couldn't get over 130. Reinforced went to 130, before they nerfed it down. Raw and Cured Silk didn't exist. Pelts didn't stack. Spiderling silk had no use. No leather padding.

Reminding us to be thankful for what we have.
