Currently 193 Tailoring and have just done

165 Solstice Robe combines and have had........

    0 Skillups!

Whats going on has this happened to anyone else? All my other tradeskills are over 220 and i have never had a worse then 80 combines for one skill up in any other skill.

    I got 355 wis too.....

    Any ideas?

Is Otmir armor a better idea to go, will it cause me less heartache then these stupid robes?

Hehe, not bad yet, i had 300+ from 191 to 192, sometimes the RNG just decide to spank you.

190 to getting past 200 is regarded as HELL Levels.

I myself got stuck around 192, did 143 reinforced acrylia combines before i got a skillup.

Keep at it, i can assure you it gets a 'little' easier in the 200&Teens! ....But not much!

Just read through old primal scream posts, or view one of the many posts on skillup logs post 158, and you'll see that it happens to almost everyone at some point or another.

I feel fairly fortunant to having had my worst single skillup run 150 or so attempts (post 158 tailoring).

You should really tailor items closer to the next trivial level. This basicly means flawless rockhopper hides are your primary pelt and needed for acrylia reinforced armor since it goes upto 242. The reasons for this are:

            1) The closer the item is to a trivial level, the more likely you are to get skill ups.

            2) This goes strongly with 1 - You're more likely to gain a skill up on a successful combine instead of a failed one.

No way... where'd you find this info? I've never noticed this personally, and have never seen anything that agreed with either of these statements?

This is assuming you arent doing a 250+ trivial item at like skill 20, of course..and it's always been my superstition that it takes forever to get skill ups when you're within a few points of trivial :P (probably untrue though)

Or is it 3am and I can't read worth a hoot

It's been tested on JC, as that is easy to prove and cheep from 1 -100. making the closest trivial, making the 102 trivial. The closest trivial was 20% faster.

So, the question would be.. if you gained a 20% increase in skillups by making the closest trivial, to doing only the 102 trivial... what was the percentage increase of the successes doing it the first way?

If you say they're linked, which i think is an norathian myth, the percentage of successes should equal the percentage of skillup gains increase.. ie 20%.. i'm going to bet there was a much higher increase in success rate doing the closest trivial than 20%

To churn the waters a little more I remember a post (thought it was the blacksmithing forums) where someone tested out on different characters and the idea was that skillups were more common during Successes vs. Failures.

With this in mind it would be more advantageous to stick close to your trivial or trivial + geerlock.

                    Personally, I am with Trentazra:

it's always been my superstition that it takes forever to get skill ups when you're within a few points of trivial :P
I use a geelock and do trivial to it which is higher then trivial for my skill level. It has seemed to work for me? But again, like Trantazra, it is probably just my superstition.

Another superstition of mine is that I get more skill ups on quest items so I stick close to them. If there are five pieces of armor and one is a quest item? I do the quest item.

Of course, I believe that I have to stand on my head to get better skill ups as well. Hard to type with your toes.

I used to stick close to trivial for the other reason.. minimizing cost.

There's a lot of 'superstitions" around tradeskills. I used to always go boon when i was going to do a tailoring batch. I knew it didn't help, but what the heck.. it was my gesture to the gods telling them i was ready for their fickleness.

I might take a couple of my mules up in skills, see what the numbers chrunch at.

personally went 327 combines to get my blacksmithing from 201 to 202, then skilled up again in 14 more combines to 203.

I've also read where someone went in excess of 900 combines for a skill up in Blacksmithing.

Everyone gets bit hard by the RNG sometime. just keep it up!
