  • Tailoring Skilling 189+ (help/tips please)

    Hello folks

A couple of questions on tailoring up from 189+ And yes I know questions on this issue have been made but i'm in a specific twist.
Just for info class is Magician, race Highelf.

I made about 100 Loy Robes but still no skill up to 190. Next to being quite costly and not netting anything (excluding Robe of Impulse and Robe of Virtue) and rarely findind the Rune Words cheaply this doesn't seem to work well for me (rest of robes go like for 50 to 150 slowly).

Flawless rockhoppers go for around 350 to 450pp each so very costly ... (except when farming them oneself).

I would like to keep the cost down so i have some questions in this area.

    Current Tailoring Assets.
    -------------------------------
I currently have an assortment of 4 tigerraptor, 10 cobalt drake, 117 arctic wyvern, 3 black panther, 5 othmir, 4 velium mastodon, 4 velium hound, 3 ice silk from velious. Additional i have 56 velium boning and 74 Velium studs..

    Questions
    -------------
    The question here is :

    a) Use the Velium items for pure skilling, thus using the least furs/bonings/etc...and selling back the results to vendor (single stud/boning items rarely net more than 25pp to 100pp and always a large assortment around). Also I will fail alot since they are all 250+ skill.

    b) Go with the most difficult combines (5 studs/4 bonings) which will also fail alot but can net 400 to 1500pp thus requiring tons of velium which is costly or takes ages to farm.

    c) Put them aside for future use when successes are much better, and switch to something else for pure skilling

If c) What would be suggested for low cost with farming or without farming ?
    - Velious items
    - Flawless Rockhoppers
    - Solstice robes
    - Loy Tailoring
    - Possible to do something similar from 200 with 10% item like in smithing for the ethereal rings/sheets ?

    Thanks for your input

At your level, the amount of randomness and the waning of the moon...

Combine whatever in whichever order...you'll need to combine more. I haven't met a tailor yet who didn't

    a) fill 3 accounts full of mules of the same recipe of components

    or

    b) combined everything he or she could get his or her hands on

    and/or

    c) did both

    pretty much sums it up.

Click all you want - you'll need to combine and farm more. =)

Well Chenier, meet someone who's not done the "combine everything and anything I can get my hands on." I specifically have gone after Rockhopper and Arctic Wyvern, due to my limited abilities (I'm a Thief). I have also been collecting things over time to make a big skillup run and not doing little bits here and there.

As for Ethelwind, do what you think you can. Alot people skillup on Solstice Robes. Others, like myself, work on Velius, Luclin and Cultural. If you decide to go in a certain direction, don't get discouraged if you run into a bad RNG for skillups. Sometimes bad runs can happen.

        Saving up

You've got a long way to go yet.

Robes give good skillups, much better than anything else you've got left to do. Do some vendor mining for your robe components and make robes to 209, do your ethereal combines and then start burning all your Arctic Wyvern and other combines when you'll get more skillups with more successes.

Things will go slower in the beginning but much faster later and faster over all.

Thanks for all the tips .

I'll probably put the Velious items on a mule and concentrate on Solstice Robes (being much cheaper and some things doable myself) and pack out the Velious items at a later stage again

Like Pockets, I'm a thief so I would farm what I could.... safely and quickly, which isn't much...... I need track!

Then I said to heck with that, I'll go farm up a nice drop or two, sell'em and take the pp to Baz., buy everything that I could and start clicking.... until i needed to ice my wrist and/or run out of supplies...... Then doey(TM) again.

Anymore, I only click haversacks when I have a buyer / friend in need, I don't expect to go above 213 at this rate.

              Pockets,

              a) fill 3 accounts full of mules of the same recipe of components

You went the first route (and I exagerate, but it's the same idea). =)

Yes... except there isn't a 10% tailoring modifier item that we know of Just as in smithing, there is an item - Ethereal Silk Swatch - with a trivial of 212 but REQUIRED effective skill of 220 to attempt. Thus what most folk, who can only muster a geerlok (5%) do, is to make these from skill 210 (effective 220) to 212, for the so-called 'two free skillups'. Those lucky enough to have the +15% Shears that drop from Shei Vinitras (nasty raid-level mob in Akheva) are able to use this route from as low as 192, all the way up to 212.

Those two, along with the tailoring trophy and a +2% Vah Shir quested cloak, are the only tailoring mod items we know.

Solstice robes have been slow but steady skill ups for me.
I am at 195 now and have been doing them from 182 on.
You will need to have friends tho.
                  JCM3 enchanter....and a tunare worshipping cleric/druid helps alot.
Pharming the silks is easy in EK. Cheap too....the hard part is the subcombines(Gawd i HATE celestial essences now ) and getting gem studded chains. But a Jewelcraft mastery 3 enchanter...heck even JCM1 helps alot with failures.
                  I average 1 skill up per 20 combines...usually.
