  • SS Farm Rates/hours and hours

Just curious if there is a better way to farm this stuff. I am 55 pal and am clearing the island in Twilight Sea and still only getting maybe 25 swirling shadows / hour.

In Hollowshade I think maybe 25 substances per hour and thats mostly because they all stinking run at 40 percent even when trained. It takes longer to cast root than to chase them down though.

So 25/hr shadows (X2 per combine), 25/hr each substance, is roughly:
4 hours per 25 combines, just farming time
    or:
9.6 min per combine in farming time.

At an average rate of one skillup per 40, thats 384 min (6.4 hours) per skillup LOL.

To get from 188 to 250 on SS, at 40 attempts per skillup, thats 23,808 min (396.8 hours???)

    WTF lol
....and Verant thinks this is ok?? :P

Well, I'd try hiring a druid (well, any decent PBAE-er) to help out with the substance farming in Hollowshade.

The PBAE-tank combo works wonders farming hollowshade.

I use a 62 druid for my tradeskilling and like to get my 65 rogue friend to play the tank and help out.

He runs around (SoE-ed) and aggros about 40-50 owlbears/wolves. I run to him, stand in the ocean of mobs and cast Catastrophe, loot about 30 corpses (a lot of empty ones poof before I can get to them) and droll over the substances, heal, rinse, and repeat.

6 hours a skillup? After doing acrylia fletching (at 242 fletching now), that sounds like heaven.

Have you tried casting root on them before you engage? Use your cheapest root and you should be able to get them down before they break it.

I have to cast a cheap Darkness spell for the same reason, which is also a bit slow, but even so I can get about two stacks an hour in the southern islands of Hollowshade.

One hint: They seem a little less inclined to run if you can get several of them in a group hitting you at once. No idea why this is but it seems to be true.

I get about the same rate of shadows at ~ 30 / hr keeping the island in Twilight cleared. I get around 50 substances / hr. I use AE for both, but the shadows spawn so slowly i sit around waiting and doing nothing half the time so it doesn't matter how you kill them. AE'ing hollowshade is vastly more efficient. Any class + anything with an AE can easily slaughter the hollowshade stuff.
The only thing that slows me down is trying to pull large numbers at once. Anyone know of an instaclick item to draw aggro? Social aggro doesn't always work and tashing every mob is too slow.

I LOVE being a wizard! Cast epic skin...use staff of temperate flux to pull every mob on the island to me and the pbaoe 'em all before epic skin is destroyed!

On my server, swirling shadows generally go for ~50 plat. If you farm around 30 shadows an hour, that's 1500 plat. If you can farm 1500 plat quicker than shadows, I would advise you to do so.

Also, you might want to do parts of aid grimel quests (cleaning the bp, making pure velium bars) to lessen the time devoted to farming sessions.
