  • Skill Mod % vs INT Question

From the 'Learn To Tailor' section...

Why do you want to increase your stats? As your stat increases, so does your chance of getting a skill-up in tailoring. This is not to be confused with the actual creation of a new item. Whether or not you succeed when trying to create a new item depends on your tailoring skill level. If your tailoring skill is 25, you have the exact same chance of creating a patchwork tunic whether your intelligence is 120 or 180. However, with a 180 intelligence, you will be more likely to improve your tailoring skill to 26.
I assume the above statement also applies to Smithing. If that's true, here's my question:

I have a Z-Heart for my primary, which means I can't equip the tinkered tradeskill gearlocks at the same time as the item which gives me my largest INT boost. Should I equip the gearlock or the stat booster when I smith?

    Thanks in advance.

It depends what you're going for really. Would you rather have more successes so you have more things to sell (to venders or customers), or would you rather skill up?

If you'd rather skill up, by all means, keep the Zlandicar's Heart. 20int is nothing to cough at, and will definitely help with skill ups.

However, if you are tight on cash and need the successes to ensure you can keep tailoring, you might want to go with the geerlock.

Also, you could look into getting some other INT gear (if you haven't already) to make up for the losses if you choose to use the geerlock instead. INT gear isn't too hard to come by anymore and items like Golden Efreeti Boots and Batwing Earrings can provide a nice boost for low cash.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for the memory jog on the GE boots. Right now my INT is at around 213ish, and I was considering getting a 'tradeskill' set of gear, seeing as I already ditch some of my equipment in the bank when I sell due to the -CHA.

I personally have 4 gear kits, Normal, resist, selling and Smithing being a Paladin I decieded to go the Str route for smithing when buffed with Druid buffs and wearing my gear I am over 255 str, add some stat foods to that and I am all set.

If you cannot reach 255 in int with gear alone look up a baker to make you some of the +int foods

Bristlebanes Party Platter gives 10 int if in the first food slot
        Hero Sandwich Gives 5 int
        as does Slarghilug Stuffed Poppers
        Crispy Gourami gives 4
Dragon Meat will give 3 or 4 depending on how it is made.

Just a few thoughts for you... That is if you are trying for skill ups instead of success (if you are lucky you will get both).

BPPs are also no drop so not a viable route to have someone ELSE make them for you.

            gearlock or the stat booster

Gearlock. But again depends on what you are going for.

OK, first off this is my first time here so please forgive if I am using incorrectly..

Two questions..In smithing what stats do I need boosted to raise skill? I don't care about success or how much pp I need. I just want to get to 250 so I can make the good stuff. I have plenty of pp and have been farming my butt off for supplies. I am currently at 166 just up from 155 in about 30 combines. thats with STR 179 DEX 110. I was told by people on my server STR and DEX is all I needed. is that a decent skill-up rate? anyway sorry to ramble.

#2. what kind of items can I buy for tradeskill modification pct up?
I have no idea even how to look for them..
              Thanks for any input

                Well

                1) What stat? STR OR WIS/INT. Those three are the primary stats. It's the higher of your INT or WIS or STR that is used to determine your SKILL INCREASES only in Blacksmithing.

Sorry to say, that DEX has absolutely nothing to do with Blacksmithing.

Not that you asked, but Success is based solely on your skill, vs. the difficulty of the item being made. You can modify your odds of success with a Geerlok etc... A Geerlok is the only smithing modification item I can think of that you can BUY. All others have to be made (grandmasters trophy) or are no drop from VT or ST. There are others, but not many. And no, the +% items do NOT stack.

As far as your skill up rate, yes, you're doing well, but I must warn you, 188-220 or so seems to be permanent hell levels, no matter what tradeskill you're doing. It's going to take a LONG time between skill ups in general there. Sometimes people get lucky and plow through, but most of us suffer a bit.

I strongly, STRONGLY suggest you take some time and PP and outfit yourself with a suit for tradeskilling. Get either your WIS or your STR up as high as you possibly can. 255 being the obvious goal. You'll thank me later. The higher skill will greatly improve your skill up rate in the 200's of Blacksmithing.
