  • Brick wall at 188

I raised my skill very easily up to 188.
I always had severals improvements per load of 20 combines.
From 180 to 188 i was down to maybe 1 or 2 improvements every 20 combines.

But at 188 i made 80 combines for nothing. Not a single improvement.(both int and str at 260).
I was so stunned i petitionned, reported bug and so on.
I even decided to come here and read the forums lol.

And well... It looks like it is just the way it uses to go.....
    Sigh...

Some time ago i read SoE made it easier to skill up in smithing. I figured they could have messed up things like it happens sometimes.

So the question is : When raising smithing skill doing cultural stuff, at 188, with 260 in str and int, is it perfectly normal to do 80 combines for no improvement ?
I'm afraid the answer is yes but i will feel better if i can read it's ok from folks who went through this before.

Having GM'd 4 skills and others at 200 (cept for 188 smithing) doing 80 combines with no skills up is pretty norm, although very discouraging to say the least. :?

I did 752 combines to get from 188 smithing to 195 off shadowscream. Wis was I think 275 at the time.

        Expect some terrible runs.

By the way, the rest of my path to 250 wasn't really all that much better. I averaged about 43 combines per skill point all the way up to 250, at which point my wisdom was 315.

I have been lucky so far. 188-200 in 178 combines, never more than 27 between skillups.

All this with SS armor and 255 STR.

Most people believe that the "hell levels" in smithing exist between 188 and 220. It seems to be MUCH harder to get points.

I'm still stuck at 195, mostly due to the fact I haven't farmed in ages. It took me 105 combines just to get from 193 to 194.

                  I reached 189 after 106 combines...

Then i got another skill up after only 10 combines.

Now i'm prepared for the long run.
                  Thanks for all your posts.

Over 100 combines and still 189. Just started farming again and have enough for 40 combines of shadow and 30 for cultural. Going to wait till I have atleast 100 before I step near a forge again. I'm bound and determined to get 190. =)

It's just random. I did 6 shadowscream bracers to get from 188 to 189, probably have to do 200 to get to 190.
