While I realize that I was INSANELY lucky on the tiny amount of failures, only getting 3 skill-up's kinda bites.

Currently I have 100+ Combines in 219 with no advance.

Luckily, at the moment, I am only working towards my 8th shawl. However, seeing that most all of my skills are pretty close to 200, I may decide to just push them all to 250 fter the shawl.

175 is high enough to get a good level of success on the Royal Velium Armor though. Good luck to you!

I wasn't going to post about this, but I'm just bursting to tell someone ... anyone. =)

A few days ago, I decided to do another skilling run at smithing. My starting skill was 196, and my WIS was 255. I was doing human Freeport cultural armor. I'd collected enough sea temper for 120 attempts.

I've worked out a system (using a mule) that allows me to do ten combines at a time, swapping backpacks back and forth with the mule as needed. I'd make ten jointings (which don't stack) in the normal forge, head to the Freeport forge, make ten attempts, swap them for a new set of molds (which also don't stack), and repeat.

So, I start off for the day. Here's a loosely transcribed log of my first ten combines.

1) Success
2) Success
3) Success
4) Success & Skillup. Whoa! I was happy. That was nice and quick.
5) Success
6) Fail & Skillup. Hey!
7) Success & Skillup. Yowza!!
8) Success & Skillup. Uhh?!?!!
9) Success
10) Success

I was floored. Four skillups in my first ten combines? From skill 196?!?

The remaining 110 combines brought me another two skillups to my current skill of 202, providing an average of one skillup per stack for the whole session, but I was still in shock at those first four skillups.

Heck, I still can't believe it's true now! ^_^

Just thought I'd give a minor update. I completed about 30 attempts last night, and got 8 skill-ups :shock:

Now that I am getting closer to the 188 trivial on the FSBP, I don't think I'll complain near as much.

We have a Dorf 250 smith in my guild, he's been nudging me towards doing some SS combines next.

Maybe once I get my 8th shawl, i'll pick it back up. For now, I'll be working up my tailoring since it took me less than 20 more combines to hit 188 :shock:
