  • where to farm swirling shadows in TS?

been farming in twilight seas but im being told that shadeweaver is the place to go ....thing is where is the camp loc in ST ??

  • #2
I usually farm in twilight sea, but... I have tried ST a few times, and I have never found a "camp" for them. Hence the reason I like twilight better. In ST, you have to run around and kill lesser shades. For someone who has track, it's great. I have, however, heard of people who use sense undead to find the shades more quickly. I've tried it, but found that I was still getting them quicker from twilight.

The Shadeweavers 'spot' for farming swirlies from the lesser shades is a little towards the zone wall from the cave entrance to the tunnel to Paludal Caverns zone. Kill the lesser shades in thi s spot and they will respawn as fast as you kill then. You also need to kill anything else that spawns in that area as they will be PH's for lesser shades.
Having said that, if you are a high enough level (55+) the drop rate in TS zone is a little better.

Twilight sea is much quicker to farm from assuming you can survive shadows that proc a 200ish lifetap. I know that at 55 they shadows were a major pain. Now? Meat. I'll do farming in TS now.

Sense undead is a nice trick to use if you farm shadwweaver. I head to the NE corner by the tunnel and start casting sense undead. I also save any chitterling barbs I may find if I see a chitterling run by.

If you farm Twilight shades, beware!!!

DISCLAIMER: This is on TEST. Hopefully it gets fixed before it gets ported to Prod servers, but sometimes even with numerous /bug reports, these things do slip through and affect y'all. I've only bugged it a half dozen times myself, maybe I need to do another dozen or two to make sure it gets read.

Currently on Test, the shadows on the island in Twilight are a little ... tougher ... than you might recall. The lesser shades are lifetapping for up to 415 points right now, with the greaters and nameds proc'ing for 515. This can be a bit of a surprise when you're expecting to AE a bunch and realize that they're hitting a lot harder than you expect.

Hopefully y'all never get to experience this -- but in case they don't fix it, or in case that's really what they intend -- you have been warned.

Ouch! Those mobs (shades) in Twilight Sea are already tough for their level. I did some experience grinding / component gathering trips there back in the day, and it was always a tough fight when they were (low) dark blue to me. Jacking up the lifetap damage amounts would make them ridiculous undercons, unless their level is increased as well.

I don't mind a change that makes them higher level as much as I would mind a change that keeps them at the same level but makes them fight like they were several levels higher.

If they make farming shadows much harder, they had better put in a new skill up option. The lack of options in smithing is ridiculous as it is, making it harder would just be stupid.

Twilight Sea was the best place to get swirling shadows.

Pull the island... PBAE it, couldn't be simplier. I avg 10-20 swirling shadows every island cleaning.

Did that for 2 or 3 days... got way more shadows then I needed to get my skill from 188 to 250 in under a week.

Unfortunally, you need twice as much shadows as the substances. There just isn't enough shadows up. Substances were trival to farm, 3 or 4 total hours, I had more then enough of both kinds for 250.

                Sea!

                  PBAOE

That's generally how we clear it -- I pull with my 65 warrior while my wife's wizard PBAOE'd. Then we go to our raid or go hunt in a group or whatever -- and try to hit it again after the raid.

But when we tried that last week we learned the hard way that the shadows are nastier. When both the 8750 hp warrior and the wizard died to a bunch of greenies. Ugh!

That's why I posted the warning -- would hate to see that go to prod and see the rest of you experience the same results...

Shadeweavers, go to the tunnel that leads to paludal, right next to it in that little area around those rocks you can kill skellies. i use Jake my dog and just tell him to attack any mob that i find in that area, looting the shadows as they come, i was averaging about a stack an hour.

then i learned of Twilight. i duo my SK and Shaman there, can keep the island pretty clear just tag and kill, wile the shaman sits nice and happy medding. can collect about 4-5 stacks in the length of a KEI.

going to try the PBAE method if i can drag some wizard buddies out of hiding. that's how I clear hollowshade, grab a tank, grab a druid/wizard, by the time i'm done cleaning up the owlbear carcass carpet, the tank is already pulling a new set. and you can collect 2-4 stacks per hour, depending on whether people get stupid and advance the war for you.

                    hope this helps

Being a lowish level Enc, I have to kill the shadows in TS the slow way. However, even at 50th level they were fairly trivial for me to kill. The 49 summoned pet, plus haste and berserket spirit tears through shadows, particularly if you pull with a slow spell. Just recast berserker spirit as soon as it drops. Since the lifetap is a proc effect it won't go off as long as your pet has a rune effect active. (Needless to say, this strategy only works for enchanters).

Being a cleric (and only level 53) I find that it is much easier and less frustrating to farm the lesser shades in Shadeweaver's than the ones in Twilight Sea. I am usually able to gather 2 stacks for a couple hours worth of work.

Btw, here's a little hint to help some of us. When in Shadweaver's, keep the silks. Many times there will be someone else hunting the shades and I usually offer a 10 silk per shadow trade....while gathering my normal 2 stacks I usually can gather 3 to 5 stacks of silk....that's 6 to 10 additional shadows I can get for no more additional work.
