  • High STR or Med INT for skillups

Im a 65sk, with 196 smithing. I'm going the Shadowscream route. With my normal gear, AAs, KEI, and Focus on I have been smithing with 290STR (maxed out) and 165INT. Since I'm making Shadowscream, I'm only interested in skillups, not necessarily successfull combines.

Here is my question: Someone told me that sucesses are a function of your highest stat (STR, INT, or WIS), but skillups are a function of your INT or WIS. If I change out my gear to Sentient and have KEI up, I can only get INT to about 200, but my STR drops to 205.

Will I get more skillups with 290STR/165INT, or with 205STR/200INT? I haven't started to buy/farm INT gear, so I am very interested in feedback.

Someone told you wrong. Success is determined by skill, nothing more. Skillups are by the highest stat of WIS/INT/STR (for smithing). The way you have been doing it is the way to go.

      Agreed.

Success is dependent on your current skill ONLY

Skill ups for smithing are the highest stat from STR/INT/WIS.

      Good luck smithing.

        More STR then?

As an SK with cultural, I have STR coming out of my ears. With Focus and food/drink I hit the AA cap of 290 no problem. Should I put more AAs into the stat cap? Would 295, 300, 305 STR make a difference in smithing skillup rate?

          naw...

Honestly, so far as I'm aware, no one has conclusively proved that primary stats over 255 make any significant difference. Maybe... maybe not...

I'd stay at 290 and pound out some armor.

          Good luck!

No one has even really proved that a stat lower than or equal to 255 will make a big difference in the rate of skillups.

It won't be a big difference in any event. 255 str would be plenty.
