  • Stat MAX Question

Iam curious if stats maxed will make a big differance in smithing, especially STR vs. WIS. Since I am a troll I need an ogre smith to do my work so I have decided to make one and take him as high as I can so he can make Blacken Darkscale. I have quite of bit of equitment to choose from when equiping my newly found Forgemaster and I have a total of 191 WIS items ( Every slot has a WIS item) and I have not tried get STR Items yet but it will be certin I will be able to MAX out STR if I do ( Since there are many high STR items to choose from for all the slots and Ogres can naturally have an insane starting STR value). I have made my Forgemaster a Shaman for Wisdom and like I previously stated I can only get 191 Wisdom ( not MAX )...So the question is Should I remake and start a Ogre Shadowknght/Warrior with max points into STR, so I can have at least 1 STAT MAXED(STR)? OR stick with my Shammy for the not Maxed Wisdom. Please all the information you can provide would be wonderful. Thank you

ALSO: I just want to state that Iam doing this JUST to get a set of Blacken Darkscale. Thats my only goal really. I want to know if I can make it earlier then GM and not fail as much. With a G Hammer.

In my (limited) experience with smithing, STR and WIS are counted equally, but only the higher of the two is used.

HOWEVER, those stats will only be factored in the rate in which skillups are gained. They will not have bearing as to the chance of success of a combine.

That said, it seems you are interested in some "BD armor", as many people call it. These items are very difficult to make, yielding about a 50% success rate at modified 252 skill. This means that even with a Geerlok Mechanical Hammer, you would need around 200 skill to START rising above a 5% chance of success. To answer you question of "if [you] can make it earlier then GM and not fail as much", I'm afraid I would give you a no.

Smithing is a very difficult adventure, and I would advise against doing it for a set of armor for your "main". I hope this helps, and best of luck to you!

difficult, and potentially expensive! It will either take a lot of plat, or a lot of farming to GM Smithing. My success rate at lvl 226 with geerlock on Heraldic armor (Human BD Cultural), is somewhere around 30 percent.

If you only plan to get this Ogre to GM (or near) in order to make one set of armor then abandon him, you'd be better off spending the money simply commissioning the pieces from an existing smith. If you don't have the money, then you'd spend a lot of time farming components, so instead spend that time farming the plat to purchase the item. This is an awfully long and expensive road just for one set of armor!

Oh, and to the original question...STR, INT or WIS will effect how quickly you skill up only. And only the highest of those three stats will matter. However, to GM smithing you will constantly need the services of a master brewer and master tailor for sub components (unless you do nothing but shadowscream armor). Most smiths prefer to achieve mastery in brewing and tailoring in order to make their tempers and leather padding themselves. If you intend to master those, you'll want to maximize WIS or INT since STR has no bearing on your skill ups for anything but Blacksmithing.

Hope this helps and good luck! 8)
