ive been stuck at 194 for awhile now seems soon as i hit 191 im getting 1 skill up per 100 combines(or feels like it but its alot im sure ) Any advice?
Currently doing Acrylia
As much as I resisted it Shadow Scream seems to be the best way to go unless you are a human smith.
Also the skill ups will come very slowly for the most part now that you have reached such a high level of smithing, not as slowly as a year ago but still slow.
Another smith on the Tunare server was gathering components for 80 attempts at 223 and hoped to get one or two skill ups.

Mo' strength and/or mo' wis/int.
Seriously, I find having higher stats makes skill ups go up much faster. At around 190-200 I was averaging 1 per stack on the average (except for the hell level) at wisdom of about 290-310 range.

Most people attempt smithing with wis or int or combo of str/wis.
I am paladin and getting wis that high without gear overhaul is not feasible. I operate with 267 strength but capped at 255 so whichever is teh correct modifier I dont know, but my wisdom at this point is a measly 120.
Someone even today told me STR for success, and WIS/INT for skillups. i thought that was disproven long ago, at least i hope. That now the skillup and success are based on highest of STR/WIS/INT.
Thanks for help.

Flintforge the person that told you that is wrong and you are correct... The success is based entirely on skill while Smithing skill ups are based on the highest of the 3 stats Wis/Int/Str. I personally use Str as a high elven Paladin (it is far easier for me to get a HoS or Focus from a Shaman + some gear to get to 255+ than it is for me to put wis over 255 even with KEI or C4+)

I was stuck at 194 as well. Plenty of successes, but no skillups (doing HIE Meduim Grade Imbued Cultural Plate). When I finally go tfrustrated enough to start counting, I made it to 80 ish combines without a skillup. Until this weekend. Made attempts at:
16 bracers
4 boots
10 vambraces
6 breastplates
got
11 Bracers
3 Boots
8 Vambraces
4 Breastplates
and 4 skillups. I made it to 198! /cheer!
Moral: It will get better. My advice is to stay away from Sickles if at all possible.

Making Acrylia Plate for skillups is a tough way to go.
I did my last 8 points on Shadowscream Steel back in the day. Even without manipulating the Hollowshade War once, I was able to gather components fast enough to make it a better option that Acrylia.
If you can manipulate the War at all you will get the components MUCH faster.

I'm a human smith and I don't understand why human cultural
considered to be a better alternative to shadowscream?
2 mugs of sea foam, fishing, 1 or more blocks of HQ ore, plate mold,
padding etc could easily cost you 1-2 hundred plat per combine
and it's not like the armor sells either.

****ae , Stromm
Farming speed and cost. It's much easier to farm mugs of sea foam (and you could probably fund a good chunk of your combines on gem drops) and padding than shadowscream components. With the war fixed, this may not be true, but it was.

With my two highest characters being a lvl 57 chanter and a (recently) 54 cleric, there is no way I can farm Hollowshade on my own.
I *can* fish, and farm paddings, and even get the mugs of foam if I wanted to (usually buy these in the bazaar).
For me personally, shadowscream is not an option. Human cultural is much cheaper than sickles.
Kiztent is right it was speed of farming. If I spend a full day working the HS war I will get about 60 of each type of substance (If I have the war all to myself) and some junk drops that may cover my rings cost. If on the other hand I move out to OOT and kill Clops I will get 80+ foam in the same day and enought FS and gems to cover the HQ ore. In the down time I have from Killing the clops I can fish OR if you multi account you can have a healer type fishing while the melee pulls back to the healer type.
