  • Mistletoe Cost/Combine

Anyone happen to have, know of, or can make any type of list regarding the cost per combine, or even a cost of a set amount of combines for mistletoe cutting sickles? I am really tired of farming, and came into a lot of money so I'm going to go this route till I run dry.

I have been to /costs/smithing and it notes about 300pp per combine. Just curious of updates/changes to this, and/or possibly a guide for buying ingrediants for say 50/100 combines.

ALSO: What is the downside of going acrylia? I notice people on seem to mention sickles or SS. Don't hear much about acrylia. in this case, would acrylia be cheaper/easier than sickles?

    Any information would be appreciated...

Zera's smithing guide has a full costing for the sickles. It's 330 ish PP at best price, plus imbue costs.

        Cost of sickles

Aye, it is approximately 330 pp plus the cost of emeald imbues per sickel, but that is before the 1 in 20 failed subcombine. With so many steps involved in the making of sickles there are plenty of opportunities to lose ingredients tot hat darn 5 pct failure rate regaurdless of skill lvl.

So basically the actual cost per final combine will vary depending on the RNG and subcombines.

I have had good runs on subcombines, but I have also lost four rubies in a row in subcombines. These little bumps in the road can alter your costs a bit.

Back when I used to do sickles I used the approximate figure of 7k for 20 attempts. It's near enough, especially seeing as I bought by imbued emeralds in the baz.

Unfortunately for anyone working up smithing now, the market for sickles is nothing like what it was back in the day...

Of course, in my guide I could only calculate how much it would cost per completed combine, without how much it costs depending on how many subcombines you blow. I did do an estimate based on an overall 5% failure rate on subcombines but that is only a very, very rough estimate again.

I do not think it possible to predict EXACTLY how much a run of sickles will cost because it depends on so many variables, including

            - your own str/int/wis
            - the exact combination of your levels in brewing, pottery AND smithing (all the skills you need to do combines and subcombines)
            - exactly how much you paid for materials, including whether you had to donate for imbuing services for the emeralds

I've been thinking it might be interesting to do a sample run at my current smithing level (190something -- I still have vacation brain so look in my dropdown if you are interested) and see the REAL cost of a run with max intelligence and all the attendant failures.

From what I have seen on them

I get about 20 Combines for Around 6K

I have resulted to doing them for Skill Ups, since I am too lazy to do Shadow Scream

Reason people avoid acrylia plate is the scarcity of windstones.

I did just that the other day. I tipped quite generously on the emeralds (it was a guildie), and I bought Celestial Essence for 5pp each in the bazaar; most other items were vendor-bought at best prices. I purposely didn't keep too accurate a track of how much cash I spent.

I initially gathered enough raw materials to make 27 combine attempts -- I was limited by the 81 imbued emeralds I had. I ended up (after subcombines) with 24 attempts. One success, one skillup (not on the success). Estimated cost of 10K to 14K for everything, before the sellback on the one success. (Like I said, I didn't keep track too carefully on purpose -- frankly, I'm not sure I really want to know. )

Edit: This was with starting skill of 193 or 194, I believe. Geerlok was equipped at all times, and WIS was 255.

I only started doing sickles at 248 skill, having deliberately destroyed my hammer and anvil and sworn never to return to Hollowshade again. At that level, the cost per success was around 700pp, and the AB market price at the time was 1500pp.

Most people count it as about 7k per 20 combines, plus a little extra. 7500 would be quite fair.

But failures can add up quick. There are many, many combines, giving you a huge number of chances to fail overall, from the smallest subcombine up to the final combine.

Remember, too, though, that you get varying amounts of sickles out of the deal. At first, almost none, but eventually you will start to get enough that your real cost per 20 combines will be less than 7500-ish almost no matter how terrible the sickle market is on your server.

Some people moan about making sickles on servers where they sell for 1500 each and sometimes more. Sheesh, that's a great price. You really won't be hurting your bank account too badly with that kind of return.

Unless -- you start too early. The failure rate is somewhere roughly around 50% even at 250 skill; at the lowest post-fine steel levels, you will rarely see a sickle.

                      True Mistletoe Sickle costs

I put together an excel spreadsheet that takes into acount every subcombine, the 5% failure rates, and the final combine success. I run on average about 50% success on the final combine over several hundred sickles.

Everything is with the best vendor prices, and doing everything yourself, with 200 in all skills, 250 smithing.

                      here is the complete breakdown:
Celestial Essense = 1.731 pp each, 100% success
Mistletoe Temper = 2.096 pp each, 95% success
Dust of karana = 16.306 pp each, 95% success
Blessed Pommel = 137.310 pp each, 95% success
Blessed Hilt = 165.204 pp each, 95% success
Blessed Curved Blade = 40.731 pp each, 95% success

Final combine cost = 403.556 pp each including subcombine failures
                      Final combine success rate ~48%
Final completed Mistletoe cutting sickle = 840.742 pp each.

If you have a different number for the success rate on sickles,

                      final price = 403.556 / (Success Rate % )

Hope that helps, everyone will pay the 403.556 pp price over the long run of several hundred sickles. Generally when I made them, I would attempt 20 at a time, get 19 final attempts, and succeed on 9 sickles. Sometimes as many as 14, sometimes as few as 4...and sometimes I would be lucky to make 15 final attempts out of my 20.
