  • Quickest path to 250

I am looking for the fastest route to GM smithing.

    Cost is not an issue.
I am GMed in most other skills so doing subcombines isn't an issue either, but I prefer to do the least amount possible.
I am a warrior so therefor I cannot imbue stuff or any of that, I have to subcontract that work out.

I have heard sickles are the fastest route to go, but I am looking for input on if that is true. A link to a recipe or explanation how to do it would be helpful as well.

    Thanks in advance.

I suggest you look at Veralenn's guide under the "learn a skill" link on the main site. That is the most comprehensive information you will find on smithing.

if cost is truly not an issue, and yer not jus sayin that, then the fastest would be pure velium bars, a sub combine of the aid grim quest. about 1k per combine and the result is no drop so 0 sell back. to 250 from 188 yer lookin at around 1.6 million plat.

Get the 15% mod item & skill to 188 the normal way. Then to 192 with SS armor then to 212 making etherial metal rings. 212 + 15% = 244 skill so either do more SS or make cultural/Mistletoe sickles for plat.

              Use the smithing guide here

              http://www.amazonstorm.com/forum/thread-view.asp?threadid=1498&posts=5

then once you hit 188 do sickles (the recipe is included)

this guide is the fastest/cheapest way to get to 188

from 188 its a debate what to do but if cost is not an issue then sickles

While I do have the budget to do pure velium bars, that is an absurd amount of plat to GM a tradeskill. I think I may go with Shadowscream, but I am currently dubious to Shar Vhal, so I am going to see if wolf illusion will be enough to fix faction to do the smithing quest tonight, if not I will probably have to end up doing sickles, which seem to be a pain due to the unstackable subcombines.

Sickles will cost you something likt 600k i think i read in a previous post, depending on how early you start.

Hrmm, couldn't find your race, but assuming you are one of a select few, you may also find a cheaper route to do cultural than sickles. If you are a Dark Elf, Dwarf, Human, High Elf, Human (best), or Ogre, then you have a viable method that is reasonably cheaper than sickles. If you are any other race forget it.

You can afford 1.6 million plat?

Sheesh, now I feel like quite the slacker.

I am a barbarian warrior, so no, that option is not available to me.

And yes I can afford 1.6 million plat, but that is way too much to waste on one tradeskill.

I fixed my vah shir faction enough from slaughtering bandits that I can do shadowscream now, seeing as I don't have any more AA skills worth getting I suppose it will give me something to do.

That it will, indeed. I did mostly sickles, and I still spent a staggering number of hours on shadowscream -- just getting from 188 to 209 took me 752 combines, if I recall correctly.

With all that cash in your pocket, you probably have the ability to hire a cleric or other AE capable person to AE the whole breadth of the islands. A cleric is especially good for killing these greenies with his AE. Empty your bags as much as possible, since the substances are no-drop, and just do the pulling and looting. Fix yourself up so you can drop instead of destroy the tons of no-drop items on the islands -- it's all garbage. Don't worry too much about having precisely even number of substances; just take advantage of whatever's there until things get way out of balance. It will take many, many backpacks of each substance to max smithing.
