Hey everyone!
I just had to share this one time the RNG did something right, for once.
I'm a casual smith. I've gradually worked my way up to a 223 skill, 2 or 3 combines at a time, making stuff for the guild, mostly, making mistletoe sickles when I have collected half a dozen rubies and sapphires during exp. camps. I don't do it to make money, but just because I like to.
We (my guild) recently had a warrior come back that hasn't played for over a year. He's level 51ish, and was still in crafted legs, and a barbed ringmail BP. I asked him who is god was (Rallos Zek), and told him I could TRY to make some armor for him (at 223, I wasn't expecting a lot of success, but then again, I like making things for people in our guild).
Over the next couple of days, I got various ingredients together. My limiting supplies were 4 royal tempers, and 10 infused high quality rings. So, because I'm a complete newb at this cultural stuff, I bought a plate BP mold, and a full plate mold (wasn't sure which one to use, you know?). Put all the stuff in with a mold, didn't combine. Took out that mold, put the other one in, didn't combine. Hmm. Oh yeah, 3 rings for a BP...didn't combine. Put the other mold in, combined, and failed.
Well, I kinda expected that, so I went back to the merchant, bought 2 more BP molds (and sold the full plate mold), and a bracer mold. Only 7 infused high quality rings left, and 3 royal tempers.
Back over to the cultural forge, put all the stuff in, and....um, I succeeded? But someone with a 223 skill shouldn't succeed on the second try....don't question it !!! Well, I didn't need the second BP mold, so I put in the ingredients for a Bracer...and was looking at my hammer on the curser. Wait, what's that? My skill improved to 224!
Well, 3 rings left, one temper. Run back to the merchant, sell the second BP mold back to him, and buy a greaves mold. Run back to the forge (beginning to wonder why the forge is so far from the guy that sells the molds) put everything in the forge, and combine.
You ever notice when you fail at a combine, the hammer appears almost immediately, but when you succeed, it takes a brief moment for the successful item to appear on your curser...well, my hammer didn't appear immediately. And then I was looking at a set of Fierce Heraldric Greaves!!
OK, it isn't the greatest smithing event ever, but for me, it was a wonderful night. 4 combines, 2 successes, on BD cultural armor, at 223/4 skill, and one skill up.
The warrior was really happy, also.
