I started on plate today. I had a backpack full of padding. Things started out great. I was only a third of the way through the backpack, and I had made 17 points from 150-167. Then I hit a wall. I used the last two-thirds of the backpack to do the 6 points to take me to 173. For a while I was wondering if I would run out of padding or money first. Luckily it was the padding.

So now I am off to hunt up some more. I am way to cheap and broke to buy any, but I was wondering what the going price is for padding. I just noticed that those BP combines are going to cost over 80pp each, so I need to make some money. Farming paddings was kind of boring, but if it pays well, I can put up with it. I thought I heard some one say that they were getting 20pp each --- that seems like way too much --- that would mean that I burned through 3200 pp worth today!!!

20pp per padding is the going price on Fennin Ro.
Note: you can often buy low quality pelts for as little as 5pp in the bazaar, and spiderling silk for 2-3pp each. Potentialy, you can make a proffit for a few clicks. Potentialy.

If you want a suggestion on how to get fur padding and a proffit I'd suggest hunting Grey Hoppers in Marus Seru (they drop low quality rockhopper pelts quite often) and hunting Lesser Shades in Shade Weavers Thicket for shadeling silk. Sell the swirling shadows for market price (varies quite a bit between servers. I'm suprised padding dosen't) and the grey hopper hides to support your smithing habbit. Ya won't get much for the grey hopper hides, but swirling shadows go for suprisingly huge ammounts of plat. Kinda bad news for poor smiths though.

Thanks, Yep, MS is where I got my backpack full of padding. While I was getting the LQ hides, I got enough Greyhoppers to raise my tailoring to a decent level.

I have been in Shadeweavers getting my Broodling Carapaces for the progressive smithing quest. While I was there I was hitting every lesser shade I saw too. I have seen a total of 2 swirling shadows. Seeing as I will need hundreds of them before I am done, that doesn't look too encouraging. :>)

Yes, after I said hundreds, I realized that it should have actually been thousands. I guess I should have started this a couple of years ago. I was hoping to make myself a set of blue diamond armor before EQ2 came out, but I now think this is a hopeless dream. Oh well, maybe I will have to buy the all access pass and keep working on this guy evey once in a while too. :>)

LiL hint of a burned out smitty, from 175 to 188-

If you are gonna get all the leather padding yourself, then you actually wont NEED much money. I did my skill runs in the bazaar ( I am very good at navigating the bazaar looking at the floor ) There is no weight/movement penalty here.

Buy all the stuff ya need at the main building (ore, molds etc)
Head to the forge ( i prefered the one in the back near the arena, less lag)
Begin your combines, It cost about 86 pp or so to buy the items ya need, Sell your success back to the vendor at about 83pp. With about 140 CHA. (get high lvl shammy grp buff)

Thats right, you loose barely any pp at all, sure it will add up, but that should be easy to keep up with. This works well if you are farming the padding yourself and are doing the BP!

BTW it has been along time since i did FP so if it has changed any, be nice on the flame plz.

Consider that a preview. One skillup per stack of padding may be a little slow at 170, but it's not bad at 190. I wonder if your geerlok effectively put you at around 175-180 skill in terms of skillup rate as well as success rate.

Another place I have found that is abundant in pelts is Stonebrunt. There is a good chance of getting a pelt every kill and even a lot of times you get two.

Yep, I realize that the success don't actually cost that much, but the failures on the breastplates will be 3X20pp for the metal, plus 20 pp for the mold. I know I can expect SOME failures, and right now I don't have the cash any more. I think I will go fill another backpack with paddings and sell off about a third of them.

at 177

I'm at 177 with geerlock and the Skill ups have slowed down. with HOS Str at 255 i got form 156 - 167 with about 60 combinds and very few fails. about every 5th one or so. with my Opal steins and Cats eye Agent gold braceres puts my ugly ogre butt to 109 cha just enought to get best price in POK. well point after 170 it's got slow like 1 to 2 skill ups a stack if i'm lucky. and on me server (Que) padding goes for 25pp standard. and all my farming has been MS for Hids and Feerott north west corner for Silk (no place like home) you good folk could try feerott too guards don't go by there much just up and to the right of the druid rings... lol i'd love to put a ogre guard right at the rings..

Thanks for the tip. The druid ring is were I get my silk too. Boy is it ever dark there for a poor little Barbarian boy, far from home. :>)

All i can say is GL my friend, we dont have the luxury of haveing a bridge armor like humans and highelfs. FP then BD basicly, yes SS is the cheapest way to go. /sigh

Yes, I had a level 11 Iksar beastlord when I found out about the barbarian cultural armor. I rerolled a Barb beastlord. Now I am on the road to making some BD armor (a LONG road yet), which used to be the best crafted armor I could get for my Beastlord. Now PoP comes out, and all the high level Beastlord armor is tailored. I wonder if the game will still be going by the time I can get there too :>)
