  • Essence of Sunlight

What do all you Human smiths do for Essence of Sunlight? I know they drop off Sand Giants, is there somewhere else they drop that I don't know of? A few months back I was very comfortably able to buy Essence of Sunlight in the bazaar for 100-200pp each, that seemed reasonable to me. Now, the cheapest I ever see in the bazaar is 500pp each but people still seem to have a lot of it.

    HELP! hehe

Essence of Sunlight mainly comes from the Chromadracs in Skyfire, annoying little dragons that constantly dispell you, dot you, then dispell you again (even if they are only dispelling their own dot....)

Most people camping Skyfire ignore the Chromadracs because they don't want to be constantly re-buffing themselves. Which is good, in a way, as there are usually hordes of the things running around. But bad, of course, since it means less Essence of Sunlight is making it into the marketplace and prices stay high.

Drop rate is supposed to be about one in three.

You can get them from the Chromodracs in Skifire. I have also heard, but not confirmed myself, that they can drop from the Sun Reaver/Revenants in the Scarlet Desert. If they do drop from the Sun Reaver type mobs in SD, that would probably be the best option since they are up more commonly than Sand Giants are in their home zones.

Edit: Again, I haven't confirmed the sun reaver drop. May want to wait for independant verification of the drop before you go waltzing out there and risk getting your arse handed to you for no good reason.

Why did the ranger cross the road?
Because the chicken had him at 10%.

If the Sun Revenants/Reavers are dropping Essence of Sunlight, then it's a pretty new development. While doing a twelve hour camp (!) for the Burning Priest on the plateau in SD my friend and I killed a very large number of the Sun Revs/Reavers and not once did any Sunlight drop.

Got any number of Smiter's Girdles, Lucid Shards and so on though....

Then I was probably fed bunk information. Wouldn't be the first time. =) Thanks for the heads up.

I have heard (but not personally experienced) that the chromodracs in WL can drop them too. Still, not something a level 36 druid can kill.

I can confirm that the chormadrac looking mobs (Faerie Dragons, I believe) in WL do indeed drop of the essences of sunlight... however, as memory serves, these guys are factioned...Tunarean Court (the Tunare followers in WL), I think. Found that out the hard way, of course, hehe. Still, for folks on not-so-friendly terms with Tunare, they are far easier kills than chromadracs in Skyfire.

The best place for it is Skyfire Mountains, fighting chromodracs. Patience is a virtue. People on drinal try for up to 700pp per essence, which i think is ridiculous and refuse to pay. It may take alittle time, but ive never paid more than 150pp for my essence.

Wow, hehe, i thought i was doing good to get 100 pp each for em! )

I solo in skyfire with a wizzy, good loot on those chromas! yes they dispell your buffs, I bring a pocket bard for mana regen. The exp at lvl 55 is a bit slow compared to a lot of places I could fight, but the cash is pretty decent, and its easy safe experience. Unlike most zones, no one ever complains that you stole their croma spawn! )

And your cleric friends will love you forever if you actually manage to find them a shard. Hehe, one shard can get you free rezzes anywhere for life! )

I solo these as either a 57 druid (using my bard as mana regen /nod) or fearkite them with the bard, or charm a wurm and sick it to them the easy way. Drops are about 1 in 5 for me, I can kill about 20 in an hour at normal speed.

Well, back in the day, chromos did not have extended range on their spells. So I could kill them all day long. I had about 2 stacks or so of Royal Temper, so the change never really hurt me (that, and I am an Erudite that doesn't use RT).

Not sure if you are in a guild or not but I personally have been hunting in Sky fire for the Clerics of our guild... Shards you know... As long as you have a decent tank (57 Pally here) to tank them and a slower to slow them (out of range of the Dispells) you can kill these all day long.

The dispell seems to be centered on the PC they cast it on. As long as the MT gets the beast down to 95% or lower prior to a spell being cast on it the caster should not get aggro and there by avoid getting buffs stripped. I have collected about 2 stacks of these for my guild mates.

A friend of mine camps chromas for xp and essence. She started as a 50ish shammy to give ya a bit of a level range. Main thing was to land slow, have a pet up, and forget about buffs other than sow (she has the insta-click sow boots shammy get as part of their epic, otherwise it would be forget sow as well). Pet plus a couple of clicks from either her JBB or her epic (she didn't have epic when she started) and the fight dosen't outlast your pet. A horse/leezard helps alot with mana regen (click off for pulls, click on once pet grabs agro.).

Reason why Essence of Sunlight was so cheep was that everyone was collecting shards for their cleric epics. Now there just arn't as many epic ready clerics looking for shards, so there arn't as many people looking to sell the Essence.
