  • Level restriction on 200 smithing?

    Hello,

Does anyone know if there are any level restrictions on skilling over 199? I have made many attempts and my skill will not go past 199. I am level 42. My strength is 240.

    Thanks in advance)

You can take all of your Prime Tradeskills to 200, even at level 1.

Baking, Brewing, Fletching, Jewelcraft, Pottery, Smithing, and Tailoring are those seven Prime Tradeskills (for lack of a better term) that can exceed 200 (to a maximum of 250).

Poison Making maxes out at 250.

Fishing, Foraging, Alchemy, Spell Research all are maxed at 200.

The Alchemy, Spell Research and Poison Making are all Level based, and you need to reach a certain level before you can start using them.

(Foraging for Iksars are limited to the starting skill of 50).

Tinkering is restricted to Gnomes, and the Gnome must reach level 16 before increasing skill. But once at 16, can reach 250 without further restrctions.

But only ONE (1) of the seven Prime Tradeskills can you take over 200 (up to 250), without spending some AA Points on New Tannan Craft mastery. And you have to be Level 51 to start earning AA Points.

As for which skill is pushed over 200 (to 201+) is determined by the FIRST tradeskill that you attempt and succeed on a skill up from 200 to 201.

So.... When a Skill hits 200, and you DO NOT want to have it go over 200, STOP practicing the recipes that are trivial above 200.

EDIT - Bleh, I 'knew' Poison wasn't a prime tradeskill, I was just drawing a blank on Jewelcrafting, and I knew there was seven tradeskills. Fixed... Pretty Sure Poison Making is limited to 200.

EDIT 2 - More corrections about Level Based Skills. This is shaping up like a Guide Article.. ;-)

EDIT 3 - Adjusted Tinkering specification.

Pretty sure poison making caps at 250 not 200. Also it is level caped to some extent also I beleive.
Alchemy is level caped and you can't reach 200 till lvl 64.
tinkering is also level restricted in that you have to be over level 16? before you can get any skill ups. Then you can take it all the way to 250.

So you are not stuck at 199, it just seems like it! Keep going, you will succeed.

Tinkering is also Level restricted from the folks I have spoken with. Unless they changed it in a recent patch you will only be able to get to (5 * level) +5 in any tinkering that you do.

              Not true not true!

My 16 gnome skilled up to 205 yesterday (back to back skillups on innovative cams!).

You start with 50 tinkering and can't advance it until 16, but at 16 you can go to 250 without levelling again.

Tinkering originally was level restricted. Eventually the level restriction got removed. I don't have any sense of when, because my only gnome is rather recent, and the restrictions have been gone much longer than he's existed

Well At least I know I am not totally nuts then... I had a gnome at one time and deleted him because of the restriction... I would have been kicking myself if it did not really exist.
