  • HS war, confusion....newb needs help

    ok this has me confused....

So we have 3 factions, grimling, sonc wolf, and owlbear. When one attacks another you need to help defend and attack for what you want to have control of each representive camp, and in turn effects who controls the south islands.

So for example, the sonc wolfs control their default cave and the owlbears control theirs. The wolfs attack the owlbear, and lets say the wolfs win. This should do do things right?

    1. Change the population of the south islands to sonic wolfs
    2. Sonic wolfs take contol of the cave

Now lets say you wanted to change the population of the south islands to owlbear. So logic would say you need the owlbears to attack the sonic wolfs or the grimlings. Does it matter what faction the owlbears attack inorder for the island population to change? However, another issue the owlbears are no longer in their camp, how do you enable it so the owlbears can attack and cotrol the islands for farming?

    Ok, there are several scenarios:

Scenario 1: grimlings control the south.

Kill the grimling chief at his tent. An attack will happen, kill the defenders. You now have something besides grimlings in the south, you can farm them for substances.

Scenario 2: owls/wolves control the south

Case a: you want to farm them.

    Do so.

Case b: you don't want to farm them

The population of the other 2 camps is now important. If there are 2 of one type that you don't want (north and south or east and south), force the camps to be all the same, and reset the zone.

If east and north are both the type you want, reset south. Farm until bored then reset the zone.

The changes to HSM have made it ridiculously easy to farm. The attacks are fast, and didn't appear to be bugged (not that I spent a lot of time there, they could still be). The zone reset was clean and easy.

Since the shifts are so fast and triggerable, the mobs are effectively "always up", meaning that with their low level anyone can enjoy the benefits of easy and rapid slaughter without the previously necessary 5 hours of diddling around with a borken war. It's a fix, but a very bad one since it drops 250 smithing to comparable to 250 baking in difficulty. Of course since there have been 2 separate occasions that have allowed people to exploit 250 smithing, getting there isn't a big deal anyway - but I digress. Luckily the broken drop rates on PoP tempers and trashing of the BD markets prevent smithing from being excessivly profitable these days for the ease of reaching 250.

As a 58SK with no buffs or outside assistance I was able to run rampant throughout the zone with no danger (though there was a tense moment when I slaughtered the defenders in the south, had to go to 40m to lifetap back the damage I took - mostly because they all summon and it was annoying to keep in melee range of the one I was attacking). Of course, the new Jobaber was invaluable in assisting me (44 necro pet, dual wields, lifetaps, beats the snot out of stuff).

so basically who ever controls the south camp, will determine what faction is in control of the islands?

If you kill the grimling chief to start war the owls will attack south.
If you kill wolf packleader in wolf cave the grimlings will attack east.
If you kill owlbear denmom the wolves will attack north.

Once a faction(owlber, wolf, or grimling) is killed off the other 2 factions fight it out. If the faction with 2 camps attacks the faction holding one camp there wil be defenders up. If the faction with once camp attack one of the camps held by the other faction then there will be no defenders up. The north will always attack the south. The south always attacks the east. The east always attacks the north. So if you know what camp is held by the single faction then you know that camp(north, south, east) will either send out attackers or will spawn defenders depending if they are attacking or defending.

To get owlbears in south just kill off the grimling chief to start war and help owlbears win south camp.

To get wolves in south is a little harder if you want the war to go on so no one kills the named and ends it. Start by killing grimling chief. Get owlbears to take over south. Then help the wolves to take over north. Then help owls to take over east. Then help wolves take over south.
          OR
kill owlbear named help wolves take over north. Then help grimlings take over east. Then help wolves take over south.
