That's phenomenal. I went directly after Fine plate(188) to shadowscream, and went from there to 209 smithing. I spent almost the same number of combines to get to 209 that you did to get to 235 -- 752 combines, averaging 35.80 combines per point.

I wonder what your wisdom/int or /str was. My wisdom is 290, and I think the lowest it was, was 275 or 280 at any point of my combines. Most were made at 285 and 290.

Geez to think that I could be at 235 now if I had your kind of luck -- or possibly stats?

Very nice info. Grats on making it so far. I have been keeping track of skill ups and such but not really the hours spent on collecting supplies. Yours really puts it into view. What are your stats when you do your skill up runs?

          Nice collection of info

Just a few questions - what stats did you have when combining? why was the subcombine time so high? how many wailing/shrieking substances per hour did you average?

            follow-up

stats : 217 str, 280 int. level 65 enchantress. those are the relevant stats i think. far as the reason for the length of time on subcombines was mostly the space required for it all. had to keep switching characters to get more items. count up the number of combines (752) and think about it. need 752 orbs. thats 752 each wailing and shrieking. and 1500 swirling. just didnt have the room. i used 3 other characters to store stuff and had to switch numerous times.

depending on who i got to help me in hollowshade, i was getting anywhere from 15 per hour ( solo - which i quickly gave up), to 100 an hour ( 65 bard partner - or 60 warrior + 65 druid partners). one person collects the dogs or bears, trains me, i AE Stun while the bard sings AE damage, or druid ae nukes. blammo. perseverance my friends. hours and hours, but it paid off. Yes i consider my skill up run extremely lucky. as i said i was very very pleased. Will report back in next week for the final 15 ( i hope).

              235 - 250

yes yes i am now complete. data follows with small story.

              start skill 235. all shadowscream

              28 combines = 236
              25 combines = 237
              12 combines = 238
              24 combines = 239
              5 combines = 240
              46
              1
              23
              3
              10 combines = 245
              16
              15
              7 combines = 248
              1 combine = 249 !

now the story. I had enough stuff remaining for 98 orbs. I was very happy. until I started... i failed a number of orb combines and ended up with only 86 orbs. yes thats a serious failure rate. then I burned up all 86 without skilling up. and had to go farm again. . 4 hours later i had enough for 44 orbs. failed 2 of those. 42 combines prepared. used up 40 and statred bitching to everyone pounding my mouse .. 114 people in POK - lagging me... and then went for last 2. and on LAST combine i actually skilled up. I sat there stunned. didnt even take a screen shot in time. had to scroll it back to get one. so

              128 combines = skill 250 !

sickening. but its done. took 30 hours for the last 15 skill ups.

342 combines. 15 skill ups. average 22.8 combines per skill up. 30 hours spent. collected a bit over 10 tries per hour. make 1 skill up every 2 huors. enjoy it cause I am freaking DONE!

Sweet indeed, and grats to you! You wouldn't believe how envious I am of that skill-up rate. I've spent vastly more time than you have, generally with better stats, to come nowhere remotely close to your skill level. (sigh) Am at 215 now, but my skill-up rate of around 35 combines per point is holding steady. Amazing how so very many people can get around 20 per point. To match your rate, I'd have to hit 250 from 215 in about 35 combines total.

Oh well, nice to see someone -- yet another someone -- can do it in around 20 combines per skill-up. Going back to gritting my teeth now.

(edit) Actually I spent the last few days doing sickles and forgot to include that in the point count. My total is actually 40.5 combines per skill up. Haven't budged from 215 in two days.

Uuvin succes because of high INT?? High STR cant do this.

Most people attempt smithing with wis or int or combo of str/wis.

I am paladin and getting wis that high without gear overhaul is not feasible. I operate with 267 strength but capped at 255 so whichever is teh correct modifier I dont know, but my wisdom at this point is a measly 120.

Someone even today told me STR for success, and WIS/INT for skillups. i thought that was disproven long ago, at least i hope. That now the skillup and success are based on highest of STR/WIS/INT.

                  Thanks for help.

Skill ups for smithing are based only on the highest of your str/int/wis. Success is solely dependent on your skill and luck.
