Normal? or freak skill up? Post 201

I was just wondering if anyone else out there has had this happen. From skill 188 to 201, I have spend over 30k and well over 1000 combines (I stopped counting at 1k combines). I am a human smith with about 235wis fully buffed + geerlok. Well today, something strange happened. I decided to hold a smithing session of only 37 combines. I am a human smith using Field Plate to skill up, since the ingredients are a lot easier to get my hands on than sceaming steel. Today, I went from skill 201 to 207. I nearly pissed my pants. Is this normal, or a freak occurance? If its normal, will my skill ups from now on always be this fast? I have also heard of people combining ethereal bricks to skill up. Does anyone know when I can start doing this, and can tell me the process/ingredients i need? Thanks for all you help,

IIRC, there's a "hell" level of smithing at about 188-200 or so, similar to when they used to shift calcuations of xp at 30, 35, 40 etc.
Unlikely that you'll see that imp/attempt ratio continue tho =/

At 210 skill with geerlok you can skill up two points to 212 on Ethereal bricks.
Its a skill-restricted combine so you MUST hold the geerlok.
You used to be able to skill to 250 on those but they got nerfed.... but not until quite a few people had used that shortcut (probably the same people who then complained til it got nerfed....).

1 Ethereal Brick + 1 Ethereal Temper + File in a PoK Forge = Ethereal Metal Rings.

Bricks are dead easy to get from guildies/friends but you need a 220 or something skill brewer to make the Tempers (ingrediants are pretty **** cheap tho - its just a skill restricted combine).

I had something simular happen at around 199 to about 210 or so... I was then stuck at 213 for over 300 combines. I just got 214 on Monday night and was dancing around about it. You will see some "Dry" spells for skill ups, I know I have had them. Point of the story is that realisticly you had a GREAT run in getting that many skill ups in 37 combines and I really hope that it continues for you but do not be disappointed if it does not.

You were lucky, grats on that - I hope you don't run into more bad luck than you already had before (1000+ combines is a pain ).

At 200+, I am averaging about 25 attempts per skillup right now. Sometimes more (as much as 60-ish at one point), sometimes less (3 skillups in 21 attempts). It varies a little. I am a Human Smith as well, doing Field Plate armor.

After 200 I was getting about 1 in 25 as well but once I hit skill 220 it changed to 4 in 20 till I hit 240. I dont know if i was lucky or if it gets easier but i was very happy. Troll smith doing shadowscream only as I am poor.

With wisdom mostly 275 and up, and now 290 for a substantial stretch of combines, I am at skill of 209. This has taken me 752 combines or 35.80 combines per skill up when I count 189 to 207(post fine plate -- only thing I have done so far has been shadowscream).

I must wonder why you said 200 plus skill on your part -- that's so vague it's almost giving no information at all. I'm guessing you're not much above 200? Just a guess.

By the way, your last name...? How unusual. Where I grew up, on Guam, the native Chamorros had a legend of a monster called the Tautamona. It had six inch long teeth and was a nasty customer. European cultures seem to share folk superstitions that if you whistle going past a graveyard, you will wake the dead -- probably not a good idea. Definitely a scary one. The chamorro superstition was that if you did NOT whistle while going past a graveyard, you were showing lack of fear, which was a kind of disrespect. And for that, you would become the self-selected prey for the Tautamona.

Thats pretty funny to see someone else plays eq from talofofo. My wife and I log on nearly everyday. She is originally from here in Talofofo, the Flores Family. Yah what you had is normal.

Everything is normal.

The RNG is an insane asylum loony escapee.

Every crazy possible outcome is normal to the RNG.

You may question it (i do sometimes) you may hate it, you may love it, but its all normal, everyday things, for the RNG.

I also had some weird RNG flakiness happen to me. I did over 1200 (stopped counting at about 1050) non trivial combines and hadn't gotten a skillup at 192 smithing. STR was 265 and WIS was 170 something. I threw in the towel and haven't made a combine in probably 8 months.
