  • Shades in TS

I am working on SS armor right now, but the drop rate of swirling shadows in Shadeweaver's thicket is exasperating. Do you think I can solo shades in TS, and that I will be able to get at least one stack per hour? will I gain any XP?

I am a 52 Paladin with average equipment and used to solo.

    depends

at your lvl you can pretty much pull singles, carefully.

i've been soloing them with pet, slowing them and crippling them. some notes to help ye out:

They are more MR than most mobs their level.
They proc a lifetap for 130-160 depending on lvl and type
They proc ALOT, some more than others.
They are very communal, will add at any chance

if you're good at stun soloing (stunning continuously so the mob has reduced number of attacks) you'll do fine. every attack they get is a chance for a proc, and they double attack. fight them the same way you fight a mob that can heal itself. if you can out dps them and keep stunning, you'll be in good shape. if not, get a slower partner. once they are slowed and/or crippled, they are huge wusses.

At 52, greater and frenzied shadows are likely to be mostly light blue/green.

At 61, I was able to wipe the island clean real quick. Got about a stack in about 30 min though, so drop rate is good. Great other places to go for swirling are ME and Akheva. In ME, pulling Xi to Umbral zoneline is likely to be the best option - they almost always drop 2-3 shadows each.

Hiya Echtelion, i'll tell you how i'm doing that as it could help a bit. In TS, you'll find rocks in water on which you can easily jump to cast stun (to pull shadows), south of the shadows island. at level63, i have no difficulty to single pull them to start clearing the island. you can then pull your shadow to the south border of zone, and kill it there. As a paladin, you can easily fear undead ( of course if you have a snarer friend it will help). Be careful as some shadows will hide under water close to island.
Anyway spell sense undead will help you find the closest shadow ( and it also targets it). If you get one add after pulling, you should still be ok (rooting or fearing it). Also be careful as named ones proc their lifetap much more often than other shadows (common ones being lesser and greater). got one proc about 15x188 dd once  .
To save mana during dowtime, keep your deepwater helm. Get Kei before going to that place (you'll need to stay a lot lot of time there...).
Also be sure to know the closest exit (fungus grove) if things go bad.
I also think that best place to camp on island once it's cleared is north west on the island.
This camp may give you exp somehow, and you'll surely make money there (between 1 to 6pp per shadows, plus twlilight cloth pieces for casters, and some mid-level weapons).
On average i get 15 to 20 swirling shadows per island clearing. After it's cleared, use sense undead to check repops. If you fight them one by one, it's quite safe.
Hope it helps a bit, good luck farming... you'll need thousands of these shadows if you choose this way of skilling up.
