  • Barbarian Cultural instead of Ornate Chain?

    First post

I've been working on most of my tradeskills for a while now, but smithing is throwing me for a loop with the prices, especially now that I've gotten to a skill of 115 from banded. High quality ore just seems to cost a fortune and I've been finding myself melting down Fine Steel weapons to get it.

I was considering instead going through the barbarian cultural weapons and armor, as it seems to have a large span of trivial levels and only requires MQ ore. I've been collecting the various ingredients I need for the temper, as my brewing is certainly good enough as well as ivory and jade to be imbued.

Any recommendations on this endeavor. It looks like few of the trivials are set on the armor, so if I do it, I plan on bringing back a lot of information on them.

It's a bit of a pain in the ass to go harvest the ice goblin blood and Essence of Winter. EoW might be even harder as the Ice Giants are normally perma-camped on most servers.
And you will need ALOT of both of them.

I'd stick with ornate chain. If you raise the trivials slowly and dont loose too much STR or WIS from equipping a geerlok (to maximize successes for sell-back) its not tooo bad. Well from memory

Stop once you trivial Gold Ornate Chain and move onto Fine Plate as plat bars just cost WAY too much. You might have to do lots of pharming to make the padding if you don't have a lot of plat.

Tradeskills are expensive in terms of either Plat or Time. Sometimes both!

There is an economical smithing guide posted somewhere on this board. Hunt around for it.

Yeti in the DL can and will Drop EoW. The cultural path is a bit of a painful one but it can be done. Otherwise you could go the Embroidery needle and the Cultural Embrodery needle route to 132 then start on Fine Plate after that.

The Gnome one is the best choice for those without the forage skill... Just need to fish up some Clockwork Koi.

The Original Needle will take you to 122 and the Cultural will take you up 10 more points. At that point you will be able to do most Fine Plate and avoid the Ornate all together.

Thanks Cavel, the embroidering needle path worked excellently. 12 skill ups in only about 30 combines. Still working at the cultural needle part. I've had a ton of leather padding just waiting around for when I get to Fine Plate.

I'll save the Frost Tempers I have made for later. I know of a couple of people looking for Barbarian cultural anyway.

            Welcome to the club!

Its a shame we can't make RZ armor. Especially given that we can craft some RZ weapons..... /boggle.

Just do what I do and /feedback it every now and again and maybe one day we can make "Fierce Helanic" or whatever name they decide to call it.

Alternatively, there are those rumours of deity change quests but I'd like to know who started those and where they got that idea from......

If you plan on becomming a GM smith, and you can make a toon to just store stuff on I'd suggest making humming orbs to 165 and storing them on an alt till you get through Fine Steel. Bascialy, you'll take combines you'll need to make later and actualy skill up on them instead of just "wasting time and plat".

Its a time sink though, but one you'll go through eventualy.

humming orbs are kind of difficult to get since those darn sonic wolves are difficult to kill at my level atleast. can only kill one or 2 before im almost dead.
