  • Are humming orbs dropable

Hello, I have recently read over the humming orb discussion and have several questions. Are these items even dropable, cause if so I could technically go and farm them with my ranger then make the orbs and give them to my Cleric who i want to GM smithing with.

Thank you for the information, the guides i have read say that in order to do shadow scream you have to be able to get the components yourself. There is no way that my cleric could even survive going to PC at this point in time, he is more just for a tradeskilling mule. I appreciate the info.

Well, it's kind of pointless to do the farming of the components with someone who is of a skill level to have a decent chance to make the orbs, and not have that person actually use them. The orbs pretty much require close to FP trivial skill to make 95 percent, and you're practically using them at that point.

Of course if you are dealing with a half elf ranger, say, and a human cleric, I could see the reasoning behind trading them.

Someone skilling up on orbs gave me 50 or so of them, but if you're not sure, lucy is your friend:

        Humming Orb
        MAGIC ITEM
        Charges: 1
Effect: Sonic Feedback (Any Slot, Casting Time: 3.0)
        WT: 2.5 Size: TINY
        Class: ALL
        Race: ALL

        Look quite tradable to me.

Well, let me explain my situation to you. I could just skill my cleric up(level 1 dwarf) but i am unable to afford hundreds of combines of any of the other possible skill up paths for 250. So i thought of other options, i currently have the ability to farm/buy enough HQ ore and other materials needed for skilling to 188, but my main is a Wood Elf Ranger, and has no truly easy to skill on cultural, so then we go to Cleric, can make easy trivial progressions until the 238 to 250 jump. As i see it i wont be able to afford the possibly 2000 combines for 188 250 if i use just cultural/sickles/acrylia. There is no way that i want to level my cleric until my ranger has reached 65 and has all AA's that would significantly improve my play quality of my char aka AM3 and EQ.

Thanks for the info on orbs. Btw what is the duration and stackin of the DS cast by them.

If you're actually at all concerned about getting EQ and AM3 on your ranger why are you smithing then? It would be quite easy to get a number of levels in the time you spend farming and getting your ranger's smithing to the level it needs to be.

            The DS is described here:

I'll leave it to you to figure out the stacking.

Sonic Feedback, all I know about it is enchanters can cast it as a damage shield and it's not stackable with druids ds. I believe it just does 12 damage each time something hits it. Once a humming orb is used in this way is it consumed I wonder?

Nope the orbs are not destroyed. The smithing is just sorta going to be like an alt to me. I will do it when i feel bored with leveling. I spent 3 months just goofing off in game sitting right at the 91-99% range til 46 and then one night a friend (58 shaman) was like ok i need another pet. So i dinged 46 and worked some exp, sacd myself for cash, and essentially did my weapon upgrades at that point switching in a lammy for a rock studded smasher and a nighmare compound bow for a trueshot bow. Then i was wondering around in DSP and someone was like hey you want to trade lammy for defiance and i was like yes. So now i am just leveling when time allows it and i have a chunk of time to go get a group. Friend has been working AA since he got 25% into 58 and iv been duoing justice with him when he feels like it. So that is sorta my explanation to my cleric. I also dont want to have to be covering the costs of his components for spells until i can bank roll large amounts of pp a day. Thank you all for your input.

Sonic Feedback is not the enchanter DS; that's just Feedback. They're both damage shields, but somewhat different (Sonic Feedback has a longer duration, and is a (maximum) 12 point DS; the enchanter version is an 11 point DS and has a shorter duration.

Have no idea about the stacking capabilities of Sonic Feedback, however.

Stacking is complex. Luckily, the lucy spell details list the other spells that stack in that same slot.

I've been farming with my necro and passing the Humming Orbs/Swirling Shadows to my cleric for quite a while. It's a bit of a pain to pass backpacks full of the orbs but it's quicker than trying to farm the stuff with my cleric.

To get my necro up to Humming Orb level I farmed the crap out of Condensed Shadows in Shadeweavers and made arrowheads till they went trivial (about 5 hours to farm.) I sold the arrowheads and actually turned a small profit getting to 116. Then my necro made electrum ornate till the tunic trivialed at 148, from there I bit the bullet and just made humming orbs. Suprizingly, the necro skilled up with few fails (1 out of 20 avg.)

Getting Vah Shir Hammers/Anvils for both chars is pretty, easy once you have the Bloodling Tunic pass it to the next char and skip the whole killing for carapaces.
