DON'T USE FEAR
Ok, find the druid ring on the seafury isle, set your pet up on the finger of sand.
/pet no taunt
then find your mark, snare him, and dot like mad. MAKE SURE YOU ARE LEVITATING (bobbing corpse?).
Run back to the ac isle, keep the seafury aggroed on you and not your pet, make sure you don't miss a darkness either or they will make you into SK pate. then it's just a matter of keeping the clops on you, while avoiding the AC spawn mob (so as not to risk training them), and doting with all you have.
Since you are an sk you may want to fear it on the far side of the ac island so you can beat on it from behind, just make sure you pull it back b4 you fear it again. It might not even be an issue, but I haven't been there since they changed the fear pathing so not sure if they path back now, they used to just path around the AC island once you had them there.239 Baking

To cure your fishing pole problem. Do the fisherman's companion quest in PoK. You need fish bones from 2 POP planes, but they are often being sold in the bazaar. I bought all the bones I needed (2 nightmare cichlid, and 2 valorian discus bones) I paid a TOTAL of 300pp (75pp per). The fisherman's companion summons a magic "brells fishing pole" which in turn summons ale. The poles break like any other, but the companion has unlimited charges, so just click, and you've got another pole.

I'm not too famliar with the capabilities of a 42 SK, but I know I had a hard time soloing Seafuries as a monk till the low 50s (pre-mitigation reduction). Even at 55, I can't just burn through them (alhtough I've upgraded my gear considerably since the last time I tried). I doubt fear-kiting of any find will work on the island where they spawn, so unless you can lure them off, that's not going to work for you.
I think your best bet is to grab a 40ish cleric/druid/shaman friend, and duo them. You'll both get great exp, decent pp and mid-range gem drops, and seafoam off about 1-8 or so furies.
You can also begin practicing vendor mining. If you're seriously going to take up smithing, you should get good at this anyway. You can almost always find some kind of temper ingredient somewhere on a vendor in shadowhaven, and at bargain prices, too. Also, take some PP with you when you go to OOT, and /auc for the foam. Since you can get good exp and pp off the furies into the 50s, some of those higher groups might be exping, or PLing, and won't need the foam.Alerithon, Husband of Emmoney.

Sea Foam Pimpin
My way of obtaining sea foam.
I have hired 10 or so 50ish level people of whom I always see on sea fury island. I offered them 10pp each sea foam or 250pp per stack. I always keep in touch with them on a daily basis. They seem to be pretty happy with my offer and don't seem to mind being pimped out. Whenever i have some spare time, i usually head out to OoT and offer to PL people if they allow me to loot sea foam. Most people you see out there just want a little experience but there are a lot of people on seafury island just for the gems that drop. If you have a little time, check it. My method seems to work pretty nicely. But don't forget to check in with your workers. And if at all possible, recruit on a weekly basis.

Seafuries
As a long time hunter of seafuries, I've met quite a few folks out there, and it seems that most of us were out there for the experience and loot, both of which are quite good for low 50's. When I first started hunting there, I often destroyed mugs of seafoam.ops:
So do try auctioning to buy the stuff. You might also try looking for a seafury group. Quite often folks would walk up to me and want to join me, especially wizards (I felt like a home for lost wizards sometimes :\), but I was playing both a ranger and a cleric, so your mileage may vary.

Before I had any characters high enough to hunt at the seafury island, I used to run errands for the folks hunting there, as well as buy the mugs of foam that they had. In many cases, a stack or 2 of bone chips along with water and food was enough to get a stack of foam. When I pass thru, I try to buy all the foam I can.
Seafuries were where my shaman soloed to 52. They give decent exp soloing up to about 54. They turn lite blue and green by 56ish. They can drop very decent gems, which would also be why they are camped 24/7. Gornit on that island is the giant pirate that drops HG coin and the possiblity of any antonican giant toe (great for alchemy, and gornit funded my alchemy practicing also).
