  • Mug of Sea Foam

(Not entirely sure if this should go in smithing or brewing, but lets see...)

I've decided to try my hand at seafarers' ringmail (freeport cultural). I have everything needed with the exception of the sea temper. Saltwater seaweed is easily picked up fishing in OOT and in Tim Deep (I think). Fish Wine can be bought by the truckload, or brewed if I want to go that route.

My problem lies with the Mug of Sea Foam. So far I've only found it on the Goblin chieftan in OOT. A couple hours smacking the goblins around netted me only 1 mug of sea foam (need 2 for one temper). I also heard that the foam drops from some cyclops there as well, but the cykes in OOT are too heavily contested to be able to be held for foam drops for long.

Has anyone else found a good (or at least steady) source of the sea foam or do I just need to keep mulching those goblins?

Because the chicken had him at 10%.

Depending on the server economy, you may be well served going to the seafury island and offering 5-10pp per foam to the hunters there. If the seafuries are truely contested (really? wow), then goblins it the way to go.

Now, do you mean the AC, or the sea furies on the next island over from sister island (where Quag Maelstrom and the corrupted spawn). I've never seen seafuries contested.

Yeah, unfortunately I did mean the Sea Furies. There is almost always a group or three camped out at various spots around the island, mulching the cykes as soon as they pop. I'm not entirely sure if it is an exp thing or if they are looking for a drop/rare, but there is almost always a fairly high level crowd there taking it to em.

Assertiveness is the key. With an approach of "I don't get any exp off these mobs and I don't want to take any away from you or your group. If you get any mugs of sea foam you don't want can you toss them this way?", I usually get 3-4 stacks an hour just in donation while fishing up some seaweed on the side. If your server ethics differ then this may not work.

Actually at 42 a number of the furbies will be even to our fearless SK. He could take the tack that since they are nailing all the exp mobs in the zone, it's zone disruption and petition.

Chances are if high levels are nailing the mobs it's for the sea foam, so he's pretty much SoL.

Ok, I have never tried this, as the seafuries are always easy to get to on Rodcet Nife.

However, from what I hear, there are also seafuries on the island with the allizisaur (sp?)

Most likely, since its harder to get to, its less camped.

Just an update. After about a dozen Goblin Chieftains killed and only one Sea Foam looted I decided that it wasn't an effective route. I swam over to the Seafury Cyke island to check on the camps. There were only two other people on the island who had set up camp to wax cykes. One of them had just arrived and had nothing, the other had been there awhile and claimed that he had 33 foams that he would sell to me at 10pp each. While I gladly would have paid that I did not have the cash on me at the time and the bank was a long, boring boat trip away (I really need to get my thurg faction up so I can make those stupid potions). Anyway, I found a nice secluded spot on the opposite side of the island, summoned a pet, buffed up and went to try my luck.

Most of the Cykes conned dark blue, with the occasional whitey (Corrupted was up as well, but I sure as New Jersey wasn't going near him). One dark blue Cyke wandered far enough away from the others that I could safely pull him. Darkness, sic pet, heat blood, fear, heart flutter, smash. Backed off, fear wore off, refeared. Everything was going good. The only thing that had me worried was the pathing. The island isn't too terribly big and every fear sent the Cyke on a b-line right for the center of the island where all the other cykes mill about. One fear lasted longer than I expected and the cyke made it close enough to his buddies to bring them down on me. No chance I could take three at the same time. Feign death, watch Jobober eat Cyke fist, waited for DoTs to wear off got up and left. Will surely need to bring back-up on my next trip.

So to sum up, I still only have one Sea Foam. As a side note, this little excursion into OOT also taught me that I am the WORST FISHERMAN EVAR! I figured in my downtime between Chieftains that I could fish for some seaweed. Before I left from Freeport I bought myself 3 poles and 4 stacks of bait. Call it unlucky, or call it crazy hate from the gods of fishing. Whatever the reason - all three fishing poles broke in <14 fishing attempts. *sigh*

I'll go back tonight or tommorow. With back-up. Hopefully will have better luck with both the cykes and with the fishing.

For the furbies, here's how you do it:

find the druid ring looking thing (SE corner of the island with ogre there). There is a spit there (that is, long sand finger). Park Jobaber at the end of the spit. With the higher duration 49 fear and dooming darkness, the furbies will path just past the ring to the tree. Not sure how it would work with the short fear and engulfing.

Once fear breaks, pull back down the spit, redark, refear.

Bring some cash next time you go too. 10pp each is about what you can buy them for from vendors - someone who is going to sell to vendors probably won't get that much.

And furbies are good exp at 52 with a partner.

You may also want to try Vendor farming, as Kiztent said bring some cash and check the merchants on the Sister island... On Tunare a lot of folks will sell what ever they get from the Clops to the sister vendors.

I was killing the cyclops at the AC spawn and pulling seafuries with my 6 minutes down time last night. I was not having luck with sea foam, so I went to sister island. No sea foams for sale. So I went back to AC island and remember that the enchanter spell seller is on that island. Went up to him...cha-ching. Sea Foam. Don't forget him on your vendor mining expedition.

                      Fishing Polls

You can buy Fishing Polls and bait on sister island. I know because I've broken about 30 of them getting seaweed. Why isn't seaweed also a spawn at the bottom of the ocean?

The most effective ways of getting sea foam, in my now long (sigh) experience:

                        a) /auc for them in OOT at 10pp a pop
                        b) vendor mine on the nearby islands at 10pp 5gp a pop
                        c) buy in Bazaar for whatever price you can afford at the time
                        d) bring your own group to Seafury Island and have a "sea foam" party
                        e) persuade friends to save any sea foam they get when they go there

To keep yourself in fishing poles do the fisherman's companion quest which I believe is listed under the quest section of the main site.

On E'ci at least the fish required are usually for sale in bazaar.

I have not yet re-confirmed this, and it may be a pure luck thing but...Vendor rooms in corners from bank in shadowhaven where you zone in from nexus...On had a seemingly unlimited supply of foams...I bought 8 bags worth and ran out of cash...anyone else wann check this out?

                              Buggy merchants

There is a bug floating round which occasionally causes vendors to believe they have an unlimited supply of certain items. A GM confirmed to me that it is a known bug after I petitioned 2 merchants in Felwithe selling unlimited supplies of batskull earrings for 22pp each. It appears that the bug is deep rooted - as they have continued to pop up occasionally selling batskulls since, even after patches / resets. (Batskulls now trade for 25pp in bazaar on Kane Bayle as a result)

Maybe your seafoam merchant was an instance of this bug on your server?
