Greetings fellow smiths!
I've been slacking in my smithing progression lately. Largely due to getting guildmembers who are now hitting 60 (our guild cut off for getting flagged) flagged for PoS/PoV. But last night I decided I would burn a few DB Cultural combines I've had sitting in the bank for months.
I'm a human cleric serving Mith Marr so decided I'd burn my 4 attempts on 4 Lum Heraldic BPs. Of course only having 201 skill I figured all I would be doing would be clearing out some bank space.
So imagine my surprise when my first combine is successful! I sat back stunned for awhile and just stared at the BP on my cursor. Thinking somehow it was a trick and it really wasn't there. I finally went ahead and did 2 more combines, which failed. Finally I hit combine on my forth and final attempt and low and behold a 2nd BP!
This was my first attempt at BD cultural. I've made several dozen shawl quest BPs for guildies but this is by far the most difficult item I have ever made. I've have lurked here for some time and know that even at 250 skill you can only expect a 40% or so success rate on BD cultural. So getting a 50% success at 201 (+geerlok) was really shocking to say the least!
So after last night I am renewing my commitment to smithing and will be heading to HSM (THANK YOU for finally fixing the war SoE!) to farm some SS combines.
Also I'm curious to find if anyone else had this kind of success rate at such a low skill? I'd also like to ask what your experience was on your first BD cultural combines. Finally, thanks for your time and for the great advice the regulars post here. It has helped me a lot through my smithing career.
May the RNG be as kind to you as it was to me last night!
