Post your race as that will effect the answer a bit.
Typically Shadowscream and/or then Mistletoe cutting sickles.
Do a search on those topics or go check out the Quests section (where both of them are explained).

You have four real options past 188:
- shadowscream (interminable farming)
- mistletoe cutting sickles (ratloads of money)
- acrylia (windstone rarity makes this a generally lousy path)
- cultural (good option only for a few)
There is a detailed list of the pros and cons of all four paths in my smithing guide available on the smithing Learn a Skill page.

Unless you have a Druid or Cleric friend and a level 49+ enchanter friend willing to be chained to the forge AND have someone able to forrage Morning Dew then cultural is not a viable option (Unless you have lots of cash to buy the Morning dew in the Bazaar). Go with either the ShadowScream (that I hate cause it becomes Vendor fodder).Sir Cavel Cade

HIE smithing
I'm confused. Its seems folks indicate that morning dew is the main bottleneck for HIE smithing but isnt swirling mist just as hard to get if not harder? As far as I knew, it only dropped in steamfont and najena and having farmed in those two zones recently for swirling mist I didnt get great drop rates, like maybe 10 in 2 hours. Are people's experience with swirling mist different?

The reason the morning dew is the bottle neck is that to make the "old" cultural (Koada'Dal), you need bucketloads of it.
Morning dew is used in the temper, to make bricks to blocks, to make blocks to sheets, to make bricks to rings and to make rings to jointings. It adds up FAST.

AND!!!
Swirling mist can be found by the bucketload in Twilight Sea on Elemental Island.
Seriously, in a couple hours, you can easily get a stack or more.Balkin Ironfist (Ominous Deeds)

There is also other ways but they aren't cheap by all means. Personally I skilled to 188 normally then did enchanted pure bars of vellium till I hit 192. From 192-212 I did EE rings/sheets (note: At that time I had a 15% skill mod from GobE's) then from 212 I did mcs's to 218 and caped my skill at 250 modified. Total cost for me was close to 140k. So if you've got it SPEND IT[link=www.magelo.com/eq_view_profile.html?num=167441] Look under my Kilt [/link]

The Bucketloads comment is correct... To make a Cloak you need:
10 Large bricks of Enchanted Mith
3 of them + Morning dew to make a Block (repeate 3 times)
1 of them + morning Dew to make the rings
1 Block +morning Dew to make the Sheet (Repeat 3 times)
1 Rings + morning Dew to make the Chain Jointing
1 Morning Dew for the Temper
So as you see 9 morning dew for a single 3 sheet item, the next item would only take 8 Morning dew as you get 2 rings per combine. Even the single sheet items take a bucketload of Dew.
On a happier note I just TS dinged 214 last night after a 300+ combine Dry spell!!!Sir Cavel Cade

While my choice is not the popular one, it works for me.. I have chosen the acrylia route. There is enough disposable "income" to do this, but not enough for sickles :P At times, I have taken my warrior to farm acrylia and windstones in TM and a lot of times I just watch closely for good prices on the components. The upside of this route is that I actually do sell the product at a profit, albeit small.
On an interesting note... windstones have been dropping much more often, at least for me, and the price itself has dropped considerably in Vazaelle. I can even find them now for less than 100pp, and always have plenty of supply in the 150-185pp range. On the other hand, acrylia resellers have inflated the prize to an insane level... 125pp per block! :x So, again, I watch (i have a trader pretty much 24/7) and buy as soon as reasonable prices pop up or just farm my own.
