  • Lazy Human Smith

Hi, I'm a shawlsmith, i.e., wanting to get to ~180 for the 8th shawl.

As a human, I've read that we have the 'best' cultural smithing options.

I'm wondering if anyone has done a 'recommend skillup' faq for human smiths?

I got to 137 by farming sol a and doing ornate chain, but it's adding up, and I find myself wondering if leather padding would be better.

When I look at that, I wonder if anyone's checked the 'best' please for farming the skins - commons comes to mind, but maybe karanas etc.?

So, any input on these sorts of issues is welcome, as I get ready to review some more items to see if there are better items to do.

Up to 188, it's common between the races, just look up the Smithing FAQ about this.

Once you're up to 188, (Imbued) Field Plate is the best way to go, for a Human Smith.

East Karana is great for farming pelts for Leather Padding.

Once you get to 188, you can do Imbued Field Plate yes. It will get costly tho. If you want a really inexpensive way to increase Smithing from 188 onwards, go the Shadowscream Steel Armor route. I'm wishing I didnt waste all my cash on Imbued Field Plate now.

Good luck, Pet! Welcome to Smithing.

I made about 20kpp off imbued field plate.

Just gotta be patient, and park your trader in bazaar whenever your not on.

Imbued Field Plate doesn't sell too well, for what my own experiences tell me. I have some pieces on my Mule, but only rarely sell something.

I'm figuring my cost at around 300-1000pp per skill up using 1-Sheet items, double that on 2-Sheet items and triple on 3-Sheet items. It's just that the sell-back ratio is rather horrible.

But, Imbued Field Plate is not all that I craft. I also craft Heraldic Armors, Night Terror Chain, Hurricane Chain, Tae Ew Chain, etc ... and sell those too. In fact, the sales from those armors more than pay for the expenses I make to skill up.

As it is, the prices of the armors that do sell are partially comprised of the costs I made to get the skill in the first place. Let me suffice it to say, I am in the "plus" on the money regarding smithing.

Thanks for the tips. I had tried to read the guide before and couldn't load it, but now it worked. Wish I'd seen it for the 122-132 skill ups

One small 'error' I saw in it was it say it will recommend the best spiderling huntig ground in the tailoring section, but doesn't.

Out of the newbie areas, Ak'Anon, Commons, Toxxulia, Greater Faydar, Everfrost, etc., not sure which has the best, but EC isn't bad.

Her recommendation for pelts was Stonebrunt had the advantage of no ruined pelts, but the disadvantage of being big so fewer kills. It was 'ok'.

East Karana sounds interesting (sure got sick of farming silk in the karanas before, but I can't say anything with what the grandmasters do!).

I'm getting convinced that it's worthy using a tracking char for the spiderlings, and will probaby try that next.

Thanks again for the tips. 8th Shawl, slowly but surely...

                Pelts = Stonebrunt.
Size doesn't matter. Just kill a bunch around the first little valley and kitties will pop up.

Silks = Feerrott ,specifically NE corner by the stone ruins. The other spot is at the druid rings.

Imbued Field Plate sales must rely on your server. I made loads of this stuff on Zebux and sold 1 bracer once. Probably on accident. Don't count on getting rich making field plate unless there is actually a market for it.

Problem with selling imbued field plate is not that it doesn't sell (eventually) but that if you are using it for skill ups, you are making far more than than the market can bear. That is especially true if you are using star rose quartz or plains pebbles since these are the cheapest gems to use for imbues.

Three skill ups for me means about 55 pieces of imbued Karana field plate, usually bracers, and while I could just load up mules with them to sell over time, it is inconvenient and therefore annoying to do so - much easier to just vendor and take the short term loss.

Is is that imbued field plate is no good that makes it a bad seller or just that it may cost more than those who should be wearing it can afford? At what level should it be replaced with better?

Mudflation has killed Imbued Field Plate as it has killed other low-level Cultural armors, I think. Only rarely does someone want to build a twink with Imbued Field Plate, usually they buy something that costs more but is a lot better in the Bazaar.

Stats just plain suck compared to other items out there.

Depending on level, I find that poachers in Jagged Pine drop alot of pelts (low quality to high quality). Their in the low 40s, and decent for xp if your in the right range. If your going to try quadding them, head towards the river, if you go any other direction you'll get Griffin that argo on the poachers (and eventualy you).

As for spiderlings, most of the old world newbie zones are bad due to the newbie armor drop mobs that have been implimented. Misty thicket use to be rich in spiderlings, now their about half as common and don't drop as much silk due to quest drops. Try Innothule swamp near Gukta. The new spiderlings there drop silk in good amounts and the merchant seems to get alot of it (bought 4 stacks from him yesterday).

Oh, and don't forget about grey hoppers in Mons Seru. They drop alot of low quality hides. Killing shadelings in Mistweavers Thicket will get ya all the shadeling silk ya'd ever want (but why shadelings and not wurms? never make sense of this...)
Tailoring, why did I ever start tailoring? *sob*
