    Reply to Duem:

Most of my post 188 skillups, through about 210, came from Imbued Field plate.

I have gotten as many as 3 skillups out of 40 combines, but have also gone over 300 combines of various items, without one skillup.

You've been bit by the Random number generator. 47 combines is just a little nip. Just hope you never get hit for 300+, or worse, the 1000+ that I have seen reported on this site.

      ...

As a heads up to anyone who searches, reads this quest and thinks they can do it, I can confirm that it no longer works as per the write up. He now asks you to take the potion to a cleric in Freeport.

Needless to say I'm pretty bummed. Sure looks I'm gonna be one heavy monk flopping my way around Freeport now.

There is always the alternative of Invis and run through. If the smith dies you rezz at the forge. Only issue is you lose the C3 then for the Wisdom. /shouts for his C slave to come and crack some.

Just about to do this myself actually. Gaaaa, collecting for 1k attempts in one go is an effort. But we are ready now.

For smithing, you should be OK for the most part as the guards you will encounter are quite weak. If you can find someone to invis you, you'll be golden (like a druid bot or something). During my run to 250 as a shadowknight, it was relatively easier as I could keep myself invised (i'm KOS to the militia as well). i'd recommend that you make your rings up in NFP, then convert them to the chain jointing down by the cultural forge (there's a cultural and a normal forge in that area too). Hopefully you aren't KOS with bards too, as their guildhall is right in front of the forge by the ore vendor in NFP. With luck, I think there are only two militia that you'll have to pass on your way from NFP to the cultural forge. They're quite resistant to magic though, which is kind of annoying. Just steer clear of the wall that Sir Lucan is behind and you shouldn't have a problem with his interference. You can just train the guards between the cultural forge and EFP for your molds to the zonelines.
          Good luck!
