  • Cultural Smithing

OK, I know others have asked this question, but I want to be completely clear about it. I have a Troll Shadow Knight follower of Cazic Thule, can I make Ogre cultural armor? Please read on...

A friend of mine (Ogre SK - Cazic) has suggested that he would be willing to help (generously!) fund my continued education in Blacksmithing - I'm at 108 right now - with the goal being that I could supply both of us with Fulvous Plate armor when I got good enough. I told him that Trolls can't craft Ogre cultural armor, even though we can wear it, but he thinks we can. He has purchased this armor before from a Troll whom he was lead to believe smithed it himself. Now, I don't know about that, maybe the Troll who sold the stuff was a middle-man (middle-Troll?), but can someone tell me definitively whether or not Trolls can actually make it themselves? I'd like to add that my friend was referred to the aforementioned armor salesman by another Ogre SK friend of mine, and both are fairly well known and well respected long time players on the Brell Serilis server - one is 61 and the other is 65 with over 100 AA's between them. These guys are not newbs.

I know this site claims that it can't be done, but can anyone here confirm that for sure? Is it possible that the conventional wisdom is wrong? Or maybe just out of date? I would appreciate any help on clearing up my confusion. Thanks.

5th question down, in the cultural smithing section, slick.

You can ONLY do the cultural for YOUR culture. No Ifs, ands, or Buts.

There's a very very easy way for you to test it yourself if you don't believe the site and don't believe the FAQ and do believe word of mouth instead.

Get the ingredients for something simple. Adamantine Rings, let's say. Try to combine them in the Ogguk forge. Oops...

"Slick?" Was that really necessary? I know the question had been posted before, I was asking if it was possible that something had changed. And I didn't say I didn't believe this site (thanks for the link, I could've never found this place without it) or that I believed word of mouth instead, I was just making sure. But thanks for the condesension and sarcasm, sorry I asked. I won't be back.

Can we perhaps be a little nicer to people no matter how often they ask the same question?

Yes in the past I have occasionally shot back flippant answers to new/confused/bewildered smiths. Normally later on you'll probably feel bad about it anyway so why do it??

We can but hope most people DO carefully read the FAQ but a few don't and we shouldn't beat them down for it.

Closing this ... follow the reroute to Primal Scream if you feel the need to continue this.

Really, truly, if something that major ever changed that removed the race-specific restrictions from cultural smithing, there would be HUGE notices here, in the FAQ, the front page of the site, and in the patch message.

But it's not going to happen.

At the risk of going blue in the face from repeating this every other week or so, ONLY folks of the proper race can perform that race's cultural armor. Period. No fakes allowed. No second cousin on the distaff side who looks like a troll but is really an ogre at heart. No illusions.

I know some of the little things can and do get missed around here, but when we state something that strongly in the FAQ, as well as at the top of the main cultural smithing recipes page, it generally does mean that we're pretty emphatic about it being that way.
