• Block of Shadowscream

Just inquiring about this. I searched the data base and it's not listed in the FAQ or Dead Horse as items not used for smithing. A friend just looted this, anyone have a response? Is it an item to be added or a rarity?

I've never heard of it. What did he loot it off of, and in what zone?

That's interesting, considering that normal Shadowscream isnt made using an ore to start with...

Not to be a negative nelly but it sounds like some developer's PHB heard about the difficulties of shadowscream armor and decided to have it thrown in on the loot table to "help" out with the problem.

How would a block of shadowscream "help" the shadowscream smithies when the recipe doesnt call for a block of shadowscream, create a block of shadowscream, or return a block of shadowscream in ANY of it's steps

That's my point. a PHB rarely understands what a company actually sells and is often the font of bad advice. (PHB comes from Dilbert). Someone may have heard shadowscream, rare drop, and difficult tradeskill and put them together to get the wrong conclusion.

There are still some flaws in your statement: unless something changed recently, there is only one person at SoE that handles tradeskills for EverQuest. Likewise, people have been complaining that "smithing is too hard" back when Fine Plate trivialed at 242...heck, they've been saying it's too hard back when there was no fine plate. SoE has always been slow to hear the gripes and complaints of its players, be they legitimite concerns or whining from the lazy populus. It's unlikely SoE would add something new, or change a known recipe to a new one, without some sort of notification. More than likely, it's for some quest that isnt ingame yet, or possibly for something completely new...or a hoax.

And, I dont read Dilbert, what's a PHB?

                    close thread

I've talked about the item to the friend and until I can meet up with them in game and get it, lets hold off all the speculation. When it was reported to me about being looted off a mob while collecting swirling shadows as a Block of Shadowscream, it was something I myself had not seen. I've been told now it's a chunk of shadow something but looks like a smithing ore block. My thoughts at this point is it's a quest item. sorry for all the confusion

That'd be a http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=11479Chunk of Condensed Shadow. It's used to make arrowheads that trivial at 116 smithing, which are then used to make arrows that trivial at 250 or something...
