  • Crash making velium bits

I've been trying to make some velium bits in the Bazaar forges tonight, and after 5-8 successful combines, I am getting a message of 'these do not combine in this container type' and then 10-20 seconds later my client crashes. I know I am using the right recipie, as I am just clicking off the same stacks that were successful the previous combine. One time I had a failed combine with no end product on the cursor, but the text message said it was successful. However, after that I couldn't hit the combine button again, nor open up a window with the banker or other right-click actions. Anyone else seeing any problems like this?

Sounds like a disconnection issue to me. While you were still engaging in whatever you were doing, you had actually already lost connection with the EQ server. Any feedback you needed from the EQ Server didn't reach you anymore (like the missing items on being successful - the client says you made them, the server has to recognise this and allow the items to appear on your cursor). You say that you crashed shortly after, so there you have it.

Fair chance that when you log back on you will either have the base materials back in your inventory (i.e. you didn't yet spend them according to the server), or you have the product at your cursor.

Try doing the combines somewhere else and see what happens. It may be that the bazaar zone itself was crashing, which is not uncommon after a patch.

I had the exact same problem in bazaar making leather padding. Though not empirical evidence, I noticed that the problem stopped when I quit leaning on the ctrl button to pick up one item out of a stack. I could still use ctrl to seperate tems, but stopped holding it down for "speed combining" when clicking that combine box. After that, no problems.

I've had the same problem making chain jointing in the bazaar....thought at first the bazaar had crashed, but it hadn't.....

Will have to try that Ctrl thing you mentioned. Perhaps that is the problem.
Although, when the crash ate my smithy hammer and I went to buy another one, it crashed again....

I had the same problem, a few seconds later I was booted to server select. after I returned the combines went fine until the bazaar crashed. think it may be a bug in the bazaar. Im going to SH or PoK to smith now :P

              More info

Definately not a connection issue per say, I had my character on all night in trader mode, no disconnects. Went the the forge and started some combines, and got the exact same crash and after rebooting/combining it crashed again. My guess is it's some kind of lag issue where the client and server are out of sync, which is boosted by the 500+ people in the zone.

I did find a possible solution though, I had switched over to Windowed mode (alt-enter) and after that, I was able to combine about 100 in a row without any crashes before I ran out of materials. Guessing windowed mode handles the network system interupts/refreshes a little different, so it can correct the sync problem.

hm. i vote that windowed mode should not be advertised as a 'fix-all' solution. I've had people (my roomie's guild leader) claim that windowed fixed ALL lag problems in ALL zones, but when I go to windowed, lag starts increasing by orders of magnitude.

IE, it varies by computer. Do what works for you, and tell others it works for you, but don't tell them it WILL work for them.

(Not that you did this, TailorWaah, but I've had other people promise miracle fixes that just didn't work for me, or worse, increased the problem.
                Just so you know. )

As long as I'm being biased ^_^ I advise that the bazaar not be used for combines, period. What's the thing that when there are more people in zone, the RNG gets a little weighted to one side or another.... but that is a bit of personal preference/bias.... *wonders what success at Halas 10 would be like in North Freeport....*
