  • New Smith Question

I am a Half Elf, wondering if I should take up smithing, and if so what would I be able to do with it? I know that cultural smithing is out, but is there another use for it besides fun?

Second question, if I were to start up smithing, what would be the best way to get past 200? I have seen Shadowscream and Acrylia both lauded, but is there a big difference time/money wise between the two?

Thanks for the help 8D and any other advice that you may care to share would be greatly appreciated.

Well, as far as how to skill up, I suggest you read the website.

But a non cultural smith has a few options as to what he can "do with it".

    1) Tae Ew stuff, if you can farm it.
    2) PoP Armor, again only if you can farm it.
    3) Sickles. Possibly flooded/dead market.
    4) Acrylia Plate. See #3
    5) Engraved Velium Armor. (Whatever the tradeable version is)

I think what you should concentrate on is whether you find smithing fun. Of all trade skills, smithing and tailoring are the two hardest. If you don’t find them fun then don’t bother raising these skills beyond what you need them for other skills. They will both become frustrating at some point, or points, and if you don’t enjoy the skills in the first place it’s going to start feeling more like a job then a game. I’d suggest taking a look at the smithing guide on the main page and try taking your skill to 188, where it really starts to get expensive. If you find that you enjoy the skill then by all means go for it. But if you don’t like it you’ll at least have a good support skill for many other trade skills you may choose to practice.

Calabar has a very good point that you need to consider for any tradeskill you choose. Do you have fun working that or those skills? Especially as a Half Elf, since you miss out on all Cultural tradeskill recipes. That's not to say that you can't still make some good items, but you may find it more challenging.
