  • Human smithing Question

    I'm trying to save a few plat while raising my human smith. My skill right now is 196 and I just made a bunch of sea tempers. I was thinking of doing regular field plate bracers which require 2 HQ sheets that triv out at skill 202 but then I looked at imbued stuff.

    My question is, If I went with Imbued field plate visors that only require 1 sheet and an inexpensive gem that trivial out at 215, would I just be spinning my wheels trying to make the harder item.

    On paper, I can save over 40plat per combine doing this, but I'd like to get some expert opinions on if this is feezable. Will I just end up doing tons more combines and spending more cash?

    Thanks ahead of time for your help all

    LLTS!

        Don't need to be an English teacher to use the language correctly. :-)

          Well, field plate bracers only use 1 sheet of HQ metal, not 2, and the unimbued bracers trivial at 195. Anyway, it would be better for you to switch to Imbued visors, collars or bracers. The imbued doesnt have to be expensive if you use a cheap gem (ie. star rose quartz or plains pebbles if you can forage).

            I recommend that you check the Bazaar on your server for Imbued gems if you can't imbue them easily yourself (or have a friend/guildie do that). And, yes, Field Plate Bracers (non-Imbued and Imbued) are only 1-sheet items; might I ask where you read that they needed 2 sheets?

            As for my own course, I've always done Bracers. First non-Imbued until they trivialised, then I added an Imbued gem. Being a Cleric of Erollisi Marr, it was easy to get plenty of imbued gems to throw into the forge.

            My skillup-rate is somewhere near 1 out of 20, usually less. Using a "worst case" scenario of on average 25 attempts per skillup, getting from 196 to 222 (where Imbued Bracers become trivial) will require about 650 Sea Tempers and Leather Paddings. I recommend that you try to get your primary stat (WIS, INT or STR) as high as possible while using a Geerlok in your main hand to maximize your success rate.

            Good luck!

              Thanks guys. And I ment helm not bracer. Fortunately I have a line on an Erollisi Marr cleric so star rose quartz is good to go.

              Thanks again for your input

                I'm in almost exactly the same situation. My own smithing character is a cleric of Erollisi Marr. After hitting 195 where the unimbued bracers trivial, I sat down and tried estimating the odds of succeeding per attempt on an imbued visor (trivial 215).

                Using a Geerlok, skill is effectively 204.

                204 + 51.5 - 0.75 x 215 = 255.5 - 161.25 = ~94

                So that's really close to the minimum fail rate -- very viable to do.

                With a skill of 196, you should be at the minimum fail rate when using a Geerlok. You're also talking about blowing roughly 1p per combine with the imbued rose quartz vs 53p or so for the sheet (after fail rate is factored into cost).

                  I went from Field Plate Bracers, to Imbued Field Plate Bracers..

                  The failure rate on them isn't high at all an I rarely failed them.

                  I switched to Arms after the bracers went trivial then helmets.

                  Will switch to Legs, then BP's to finish off. The end is in sight. wheee

                  200 to 210 has to be the worst.. 210 to 220 wasn't to bad. 220 to 230 I've ripped right through.. Working on 230 to 240

                  I've bought most of my tempers, leather padding, ect

                  Tempers = 1500 a stack for 20
                  Padding = 500 a stack for 20
                  Sheets = Average 1k a stack for 20
                  Imbued gems = 200 plat a stack

                    Saving Platinum!!!

                    If you really want to save platinum then you should try to do only Shadowscream armor. Despite all the complaints on it, I found that spending a couple nights each week farming for the substances and the shadows would then give me several nights of combines and my skill-ups came easily off the stuff.

                    As far as doing the Imbued Field Plate, with the Block of High Quality Ore running at +51pp, it is then better to use imbued jades, for the Rallos Zek imbued field plate, because I found that it was easier to sell this armor vs. the more restictive Erollisi Marr stuff, etc...

                    Shadowscream is still the best route to go, it is cheap and only requires time to farm the materials. In the amount of time you can spend fishing for the Saltwater Seaweeds, you can just as easily farm the materials for the Shadowscream. Myself I did both on my way to 250 smithing skill, just to mix it up and keep me from going crazy farming all the time.
